strawberry floating travellers/gypsies. It amazes me that there are some who will stand up for these disgusting people who run riot wherever they go. The police are afraid to do anything so it's all ok.

The next most annoying thing is when you say something like that and people say "lol they're not all like those on Big Fat Gypsy wedding".

Neogaf will always jump to the defence of travellers, but you can always tell it's Americans with no actual personal experience of them in their community. I have yet to see a place around here where travellers set up that wasn't completely and utterly destroyed when they left. Rubbish everywhere, increases in crime in the local area, etc. I've never spoken to someone who has had a personal experience with travellers that had a remotely positive impression from the experience. Americans don't seem to understand that when Brits talk about Travellers they aren't really talking about the ones they see on TV where everything is played up, but speaking from personal experience.

A group once set up in part of the car park on a retail park where I used to work, they turned up late on afternoon all of a sudden. When we all came for work the following morning they had stolen literally every single trolley from the car park, presumably for scrap metal. Or just gooseberry fools and giggles since some of them got dumped in a nearby river.
There's a lot of fields around here as well so more than once they've just smashed through a locked gate, set up, totally destroyed the land and then left a massive pile of rubbish behind that either the council has to clean up, at expense to the people actually paying council tax, or the landowner has to pay for since there's a lot of private farmland around here as well.

I strawberry floating cannot stand gypsies/travellers. I'm pretty sure that makes me racist, which goes against huge swathes of what I believe in, but I strawberry floating hate them.

They're round here at the moment and it's cost thousands clearing up every time they're moved onjust to sort out the gooseberry fool they left behind, let alone the builders yards and shops that have been broken into. I just don't understand why they're allowed to do it, no other groups in society would get away with it.

I'm staying right next to a field at the moment and it's pretty remote. strawberry float knows what we'll do if they turn up here.

So difficult to deal with. Do I think they're all scumbags? No. But, as a group of people, there is a pattern of behaviour that leans more towards destroying, or at the very least messing up, an area and moving on without cleaning up. There is a lot of casual crime. Travellers do not pay taxes. Which means they have no investment in the community, and therefore no reason to care about their impact. And yet dealing with the fallout from their stop-offs costs thousands of pounds each time. It's not fair.

There's a permanent travellers/gypsy settlement hidden round the back of IKEA/DFS/ASDA in Croydon that has been there for decades. It's a run-down mess, the smell of burning and horse gooseberry fool filling the air, and a number of boarded up (but frequented) static homes. I don't believe they've ever caused any general issues and I'm guessing successive councils/businesses have come to the conclusion they're better off left there (the alternative being hijacking car parks, parks). You'll sometimes see them on horse drawn cart picking up old iron, metal, washing machines etc.

Beyond me how people can willingly live like that though. And more generally, they also make a horse's ass out of the law.

Dark family secret here, my great grandfather was one. He'd settled down into a house when my nannie was born though. He had the quintessential travelling person's job. He was basically a carnie from the records we found.

Speaking from personal experience, nearly every gyspy I've ever met or spoken to has been absolutely thick. Like scarily thick, in a 'how have you not set fire to your hands' kind of way. I'm sure that's not the case for every single gyspy, but strawberry float me, it seems prevalent.

I have some intolerance and I feel bad for it. But there you go.

While ever they're classed as an ethnic group there's not really much society can do about the mess and trouble Travellers/Gypsies cause, the only socially acceptable solution would be to provide campsites in which they must stay at for a pre agreed length of time so they have a fixed address and can therefore be taxed and send their kids to school just like everyone else is legally required to do.

I'm all for cultural freedom but it shouldn't be a get out clause for what is essentially antisocial or criminal behaviour.

I would have thought their could be a central council tax location for travellers that they pay into like normal council tax and when groups move into areas etc. whatever authority it is can claim from the central fund to pay for damages.

We can't stop then travelling etc. but technology has moved on considerably and should make it easier to make a system where they can pay into it easy enough.

The cost of setting that up would be more than was ever paid into it.

I'm cool with with that, it would be a start at showing they aren't above the law at the moment their way of life is tuned perfectly to work against our system of law so anything that can break down that blockade a bit is fine with me even if it starts out running at a loss.

I'd even go as so far as to say I'd be fine with requiring trackers be installed on their vans to ensure compliance and aid in detective work, probably a breach of human rights but we won't ahve them soon and I'm sort of of the opinion that they are there to protect people and society and if they peeps want to live outside that society it doesn't entirely apply.
