The woman behind me at work (not the crazy new one).

She is constantly talking about her 14 year old daughter, but I have never ever heard her say anything positive about her. She’s currently banging on about a parents evening that they had, the teachers were telling her about double science GCSE and she’s laughing saying “Kate will never be able to cope with that, she has no memory and so will not retain anything, what’s the point of her trying that out? Science is basically a memory test and she will be useless at that! I told them they are better off focusing on drama because she enjoys that!”

She also moans that her daughter is always unmotivated and doesn’t try new things. I wonder why that is?

Parents like that really strawberry floating piss me off. One woman I know has 4 kids, there are days where she just cant be bothered taking them to school, she needs a lie in so the kids have a "sick day". She is making no plans for them to go to college (university as most of you would say) and has told them this so they have zero ambition.

Edit: Also, the husband just stays out of it and is of the opinion its the womans job to raise the kids, he'll play with them, take them to sports and stuff but not actually do any parenting.

Earlier in the week some people were talking about embarrassing things their kids do. Basic stuff like a toddler shouting out “there’s a fat man over there” in the supermarket. Mother of the year behind me though told us all about how she caught her daughter masturbating and told her that she should shut the door in future.

Who tells people personal things about their kids like that?

I hate all those parents who seem to try to make you believe that their child is better than your child because theirs is in some sort of after school club/expensive dance class/extra classes. I get it at my daughters school all the time. I can understand wanting your child to do well and encourage them, but making out your kid is superior than others is just ridiculous.

It's a shame, because if the school is recommending she try double science over single science then the daughter probably isn't actually thick, but there's every chance she will become thick through having all the motivation stomped out of her.

I have never met her kid, so maybe the kid is thick, but like you I would imagine the teachers know better. She is just relentlessly negative about her own child, it’s actually depressing to think that she says this sort of thing to her. No wonder the kid is unmotivated. :fp: The other week for instance she was saying “Trouble with Kate is that she is barrel shaped, always has been, now she is just a barrel with boobs!”

Lovely.

Most of the time it just amuses me, the majority of the people I work with are decent and intelligent people. We just seem to attract a few crazies.

Woman sounds like she hates herself.

My mum does this sometimes. I was feeling really depressed recently and I said that I felt I was wasting my potential. I'm running a business with full support of a charity. She just said, "yes you are". Thanks mum.

My father also told me once when I broke down crying under stress to just give up at university (and then he wouldn't have to help with the rent). I graduated with a 2.1 after being expelled twice and appealing.

That’s probably true. I know that she found out about a year ago that her husband was cheating on her and was about to have a kid with another woman. He currently still lives with her part time and part time with the other woman. Apparently she can’t kick him out because the other woman would lose her benefits if a working man lived with her.

Thanks for clarifying you were kidding and apologising.

In general, let's try to avoid posting this kind of 'Politics Thread bait', especially in unrelated topics. There's a particular problem when you start using insults like 'scum', as even in jest it's bound to offend people & start arguments. Cheers all.

Yes, utterly ridiculous, mainly because my kids are better than their kids.

Also annoying is when you accidentally click "restart" instead of "shut down".

Yes?
