... .

Steps, too. Actual stairs. I used to crawl up and down the ones in castles because I hated them... and I had nightmares about stairs  :fp: .

Farms. There was a famous/notorious public awareness film about farm safety that they showed in our school.

It features a group of kids who die, one by one, in horrific ways on a farm. One of them is a graphic scene of a kid who drowns in slurry.

I was eight years old. It was genuinely horrifying.

Fake edit: it was called Apaches, and you can see the whole thing here. Honestly, we were eight. What the strawberry float were they thinking?

The threat of nuclear war. Became partially obsessed with the prospect, not helped when I'd read that Hailey's comet always brought doom and gloom so I'd semi convinced myself that when it turned up in 1986 it would be bringing nuclear Armageddon with it.

There was no nuclear war in 1986

The Demon Headmaster on CBBC. Haven't even looked at it since then though so no doubt it's laughable today...

...or is it?

Ah yes, this too. I watched The Dead Zone and was convinced it was happening.

A thousand times this. One of my cousin's still makes fun of me now.

The opening scene of Ghostbusters and the "Wiiiiiiiinnnnnston" scene from Ghostbusters 2. And Vigo, obvs.

Mainly ghost gooseberry fool too, I used to get this uneasy feeling that I was being watched. The Women in Black is basically my fears the film as I always used to feel like someone was looking at me through the window. Even now I'm not entirely comfortable being by myself in the house at night.

On the same note I really struggled watching horror films alone, I just get too into whatever I'm watching.

*Edit* Are you Afraid of the Dark.on Nickelodeon

Those government information films were terrifying. A day didn't go by in the 70s where I wasn't convinced I'd be electrocuted by a pylon or chopped up by farm machinery or accosted by some pervert (or Jim'll fix it as it's now known)

Agreed.

I swear I have PTSD from watching that as a kid.

The shadow people episode freaked me out despite me being slightly too old to be scared of such things at the time.

Yeah a few Dr Who monsters when I was much younger (think John Pertwee and Tom Baker eras). At least then Dalek's couldn't climb stairs.

When I was a child I loved a program called “round the twist” (the theme tune is now stuck in my head, and yours if you have ever seen it) but one episode I remember this really terrifying scarecrow that really did give me nightmares

With a little googling I found this and it’s still rather scary, I remember it chasing them and all this in an afternoon children’s show

Edit - SONM also comes up for it!

Can't seem to find the scene in English, but this scared the gooseberry fool out of me.

Wonderful! Thanks for posting that. We watched Moomins on the Riviera the other night - it was ok. Had it's Moomin moments. Still read the books every now and again.
