Get a certificate of postage at least? If not you're pretty much strawberry floated and will have to chalk it up to experience.

I've got a receipt. Time and date it was sent. Etc. if you gonna get strawberry floated over if you don't send it recorded, why do they offer other services? :|

When I send things to people on eBay I always take the item to the Post Office so I at least have a receipt.

Does the receipt have the house number and postcode on it?

Bottom line is, is that PayPal are wankers and allow people to claim back if you didn't cover your own arse with recorded. It's the only way to post eBay sales now as it covers your arse. Sorry.

I've had loads of things go missing over the years. If you sent it 1st or 2nd class standard you're covered up to £20, and you'll also get your postage costs back (usually in the form of stamps). You'll need a claim form from the Post Office. You'll need to refund the buyer long before RM give you any money back. First you need to wait for the allotted delivery time to expire though, which I think is 15 working days. You're looking at about a month before you receive compensation overall.

Because choice and there's a difference of £30 between 1st/2nd class post compensation and recorded which RM don't have to pay you now.
I Send gooseberry fool recorded/special delivery (£50-£500 cover) even when posting valuable items to friends because unfortunately dodgy postmen exist.

Sorry man :(

As per KKlein.

This crap is why it's never worth saving the 70p or whatever to not post recorded. I've heard RM are a nightmare to get anything out of, too.

I do everything at the very least as "tracked" it means you can put a code into ebay and you get protection from the buyer being an arse as well as knowing if it did or dind't get there and as it is tracked you can claim from RM as it is their fault and you can prove you posted it.

Can the buyer not just claim the package was empty? Happened to someone at work when he sold an iPhone.

The exact weight is written on the receipt, so it would still prove you at least sent it off.

This.

My brother fell foul to someone claiming that an item he'd sold wasn't in good enough condition and wanted to return it, Paypal refunded the money immediately but the cheeky bastard didn't return the item.

Ebay/Paypal then refused to help my brother saying their refund policy was for buyers only.

Thanks guys.

I've had a go at them on Twitter. He is saying he hasn't recieved it. and without recorded delivery I cannot prove him otherwise.

Part of me wants to believe him, the other party of me thinks he has seen I haven't used recorded delivery and spotted an oppurtunity.

I've already withdrawn the funds from paypal too. So will they refund him?mormdo I have to?

This happened to me recently. Very annoying. If you or the buyer launch a dispute case eBay will always side with the buyer. Believe me; I put forward a very strong case and even though the buyer launched the dispute about 4 working days after I sent the game (First Class should arrive within 2 days but Royal Mail stipulate 25 working days until it can count as 'lost'), they won the case.

You just have to make a claim with Royal Mail after the 25-working-day period (I think it's that long). If you have proof of postage, I'm 99% sure they will pay up - they'll send you a cheque in the post after about a month.

Go here and fill out your details: https://royalmailemailform.datasquirt.co.uk/

I would strongly suggest you do what I did and provide them with scans of both sides of your proof of postage when the process asks for 'further evidence' or whatever it's called - that way you can sit back and wait for the cheque to come in. Otherwise RM will contact you again to ask for evidence which is just further hassle.

Good luck.

One thing that frustrates me about eBay is getting blamed for slow delivery when it's completely out of your hands.

For instance, recently I posted an item to a UK buyer on the same day he paid for it by 1st class with Royal Mail, only for it to take over a week to arrive with no explanation from Royal Mail for the delay. Before the item eventually arrived, the buyer had opened a "request" for an item not received which instantly leaves a black mark on my account for the next 12 months. When the buyer received the item, he closed the request and left me very positive feedback, and they could see the date it was posted on the package so they knew it wasn't my fault it was delayed. I had also kept proof of postage, and had printed the postage label through eBay itself.

So I went to eBay once it was all settled with all of this evidence to get the black mark against my account removed, as the buyer was happy and we both had agreed it was Royal Mail's fault and not mine. eBay said they'd review it for me - yay! But a day later they said they won't do anything about it and there are no appeals

Ridiculous!

It's been a week since I sent the game, and it went first class, next day. It should have got there now, and now I've issued the refund, I'm worried the item will turn up and he'll get a free strawberry floating game.

I had that with a tamagotchi I sent someone, I was sure they were bullshitting but unless you send with a tracking code there is no seller protection, so I now use the cheapest option with tracking as you can enter the code and you are covered by protection so if they do say "it didn't come" you dont loose the money as ebay cover the loss. Plus you have proof of postage unlike with "normal" postage.

If you've got proof of postage and sent it 1st class - you can fill in a Royal Mail lost parcel form. You also need the emails from the buyer saying he didn't receive it.

In relation to eBay, I've completely gone off it too.

eBay is completely pro-buyer, and anti-seller.

I had some huge problems with fraudulent buyers last year - and even though I had evidence of the fraud, eBay refused to do anything about it.

The entire way eBay and Paypal are designed, is to protect buyers and screw sellers.

It's got to the point where I will never use eBay to sell anything again. Plus the double whammy they make on the Paypal fees.

They don't make a double on PayPal fee's any more as PayPal and Ebay are no longer the same company.
