To mark the 50th anniversary of Gerry Anderson's classic series, three new episodes have been produced, using the original's 'Supermarionation' techniques, including a teaser for the very first instalment, Thunderbirds 1965: The Abominable Snowman.

The new shows uses vocals recorded by the original Thunderbirds voice cast back in the '60s, for a series of audio productions.

Director Stephen La Rivière used Kickstarter to fund the new productions, which marries classic puppet visuals to the original voice recordings of the audio shows.

3,378 backers have pledged £218,412 to help bring the project to life. Jamie Anderson, son of Gerry Anderson, said: "Generations of kids and adults have enjoyed Thunderbirds since it first aired 50 years ago. The magic formula of models, practical effects and puppets is very special, and I'm absolutely certain that Stephen and his team will recreate that magic."

The episodes will be released on DVD, Blu-ray, and Digital Download at a later date.

This is what ITV should have done originally!

Priase the Lord, finally some decent looking Thunderbirds action. CGI can get the strawberry float outta here!

I thought the new one was pretty good overall. The animation seemed to improve as the series went on.

I'm a big fan of the new series. I think they did a good job, considering the changing times.

But I've got a real soft spot for the originals, so I'm gutted that I didn't hear about this when it was on Kickstarter. They could have had all my money. Either way, I can't wait to see the finished episodes. :toot:
