I have to say that I've started to get more into this. The models really are absolutely phenomenal and really couldn't be any better. It's probably the one place where the new series is arguably better than the original :shifty: . The CGI really is the let down though, it just stands out so much.
I've found the writing to be actually pretty good for the most part, though I think the Hood needs to be slightly less comedic whenever he gets foiled. Kind of ruins things when he's in his palace of evil and just screaming about being tricked.

The stupid bunt nearly killed Alan and Gordon with that take off stunt.

The problem with the new thunderbirds is that they completely ignored the fact that what made the original so great was the use of models. It was a major part of what made it so interesting.

It's the same with Thomas the tank engine now being cgi.

I thought they were using some models, but all the clips I've seen seem to just be CGI.

After watching the series so far, I'm pretty much sold on the new one. I started out a bit unsure but I think I've grown to like it more and more as the series has progressed. The writing has been really good and the model work is absolutely incredible. I can understand the disappointment with CGI characters rather than puppets, but on the other hand the characters being CGI does allow them to do a little more that they just wouldn't be able to do with puppet work.
I also think I actually like the way Thunderbird 2 works in this better than the original. In the original it was a bit silly that they just happened to have a specific vehicle for whatever situation they happened to be in. In this one, the pods are more multi-purpose, with custom vehicles being assembled in the field from a variety of available modular parts. That just makes way more sense really. It's also nice to see John and Gordon have a bit more to do in this. In the original Gordon hardly ever got to do anything since he was a submarine pilot and nothing but, at least in this he chips in with other rescues and piloting various pod vehicles, whilst John gets to be much more than a glorified phone operator now as well.

Fireflash is my favourite episode of the original series. Suffice to say, when watching that episode and the original music kicked in it was like I was a kid again. :toot:

Shame they only used it there as a homage. I'd love for it to appear more often.

So did anyone else actually watch this through?
I've just made my way through what's aired so far of season 2 and I've really enjoyed the whole thing overall. I wasn't sure about the mix of CGI and models at first, but it's steadily grown on me. The model work is absolutely excellent, and I'll admit the CGI characters allow them to do a lot more than what they could ever have done with puppets.
