So Charlie Brooker's come out with this:

People who don't invert the Y-Axis on 1st person videogames shouldn't be allowed to play videogames.

Which, while obviously put up there to get a reaction, made me wonder why people would invert the y-axis? If I want to look up I push the stick forward, not down, it just makes sense.

What about you?

Why wouldn't you invert the Y-axis? It's unplayable the other way.

It's a first person shooter, not a flight simulator. Reply to him and tell him he's an idiot.

With some games I do, with some I don't. I don't know why.

I use both really. It depends on game and my mood, sometimes I'd invert, sometimes I won't.

People invert because it relates to neck wise. If you look up, your back of head/neck goes downwards... and look down, it goes upwards. Or something. :shifty:

If you imagine your head as a thumbstick, when you push it forward, you look down. It just makes sense.

Invert. Future seems pretty split on the issue - but inverting's clearly the right choice.

Pisses me right off when we get preview code and invert hasn't been implemented. Happens more often that you'd think.

When you look down, your head goes slightly forward, and vice versa. Think of the stick as controlling your character's head instead of their eyes and it makes perfect sense.

With a mouse never, with a joystick / pad always.

No, mate, what I mean is your explanation makes perfect sense regarding the nature inverted controls.

A list of people who didn't invert the Y axis:

Ian Huntley
Fred West
Rose West
Bobby McFerrin
Idi Amin

Draw your own conclusions from that.

Seriously though, while not wanting to invert is probably some kind of genetic abnormality, like being left-handed or Jewish, the main thing is that there is a choice. Any developer who doesn't include the option is basically a fascist. And the developers of Zeit 2 are just morons. It's a 2D shooter, but they made the game use the 360's default invert option, with no in-game option to override it.

Inverting the Y-Axis is almost as bad as playing a racing game with a 3rd person camera. It's not right.

If pushing the stick up to look up is wrong, I don't want to be right.
