I just had to renew my car insurance.

I was previously with Elephant and, in trying to renew, they were about £700 more expensive than the best price I could muster (from Swift Cover. Now, I've dealt with Elephant a few times and I've had nothing but outstanding service from them (aside from them not actually cancelling my cover when I asked them to, which is why I had to phone up today to get a refund of this month's DD), which obviously isn't enough to justify a £700 more expensive policy, but it got me thinking.

If push comes to shove, and the policy gap narrows massively, I probably would take a hit on the premium in order to go with someone who's service I know is good.

So what about you guys? Is the lowest price simply the be all and end all or would you take a hit in the wallet to get a service you know is great?

The odds of something happening to your car are pretty slim so I'd just go with the cheapest and be done with it for a year.

I always go for the lowest price I can get, customer service doesn't bother me much since I've never noticed much difference between services, they're all automated and gooseberry fool. :x

The only dealings I've ever had with car insurers was setting up, I've never had an accident and so don't really place any value on the service, perhaps it'd change if I'd been in a crash, but for now I just go to the cheapest.

Customer Service is not something I'm willing to pay extra for. I'm well versed in getting what I want out of brainless dickheads in call centers.

Funnily enough, I'm well versed in strawberry floating over arsehole customers who decide the need to 'show me who's boss'.

I'm perfectly willing to pay a fair amount for someone making my life easier. When I get some good customer service unexpectedly I always come away with a smile on my face and be sure to make the person know I appreciate their held and to tell others of my experience.

Most recent example is how helpful Lloyds were in resolving my card problems after Shopto strawberry floated me over, I found out on a Saturday, became instantly depressed because I thought it would be a colossal head ache to sort out, but few phone calls about half an hour of my time and some very helpful people later it was all sorted. Tremendous stuff.

Makes you want to spread the love.

I love it when people ring me at work and just ask straight away to speak to my supervisor.

It gets me off the phone for ten minutes when they do that. Incidentally, working in a call centre and not being a "brainless dickhead," ( :| ) when clowns phone up purely to shout and think that you're the one who put the rules in place and that you're personally trying to strawberry float them over it grinds you down a bit. Ruins my day when I get one of those fuckheads on the phone. Most people are fine and ok, but every so often... :fp:

That's what I did. My car was written off and I got dicked on the insurance. Fortunately the company that owned the other vehicle were nice enough to pay me compensation so it didn't really matter, but phoning up my insurance company was an absolute pain.

Good service should come as standard...

I've never had a prostitute so I can't help.

I would always go for the cheapest car insurance as I would hope not to have to deal with them for a year. If I was planning an accident then maybe I would pay extra for a company with good customer service, but I can't see myself ever planning to crash on purpose.

I left a £1 tip in Pizza Hut just now, so yeah, I guess the answer to the thread title is one pound.
