Release date is too far away to get interested, but I'll leave this post here so it shows in my "your posts" search.

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

This makes me sad.

I know there are some existing ways to play old games, but there really ought to be a legitimate way to play games from older generations that would otherwise be almost lost.

Technically its possible to stream games across the internet, I guess its probably licensing issues that cause the most headaches and I guess there's not really any proof there's even a market for such a service, but if it was done right (not platform or publisher specific) and had the right content you have to believe it'd be quite desirable to a lot of people.

There's gog.com I suppose. I'm pretty sure they have Syndicate.

It's under utilised, and maybe not as feature laden as modern touch surfaces, but it's hardly like it's unresponsive. The few times I've used it as I would a touchscreen it worked well. Though I doubt it would make a worthy substitute to a mouse.

If you search online, and don't mind putting the thing together yourself, there is actually a PS4 mouse hack available.

It is, its also on Origin...but it can be a bit of a pain to get the games working properly on PC. It just reminded me of a load of old Amiga games that can't be had legitimately or easily, to be able to play games like this on a dedicated system designed to let you do that legitimately is kind of what I want.

I might be biased as a PC gamer, but I much prefer general purpose hardware to dedicated systems.

It depends on what you want, I can see a place for both.

But generally if you want something to perform a specific function as well as it possibly can, you are better off with something dedicated to that particular task.

What an odd statement. Almost as if the consoles get marks for trying.

PC hardware is currently so far past that of what's on the consoles that efficiency being dedicated to the task and what not is irrelevant.

That's an extremely odd statement. You aren't comparing the same things.

A PC for £250 wouldn't be as capable as an Xbox One for £250, the dedicated machine is always going to be more efficient to the point that you have to be massively overpowered to come near its performance.

But its not really relevant to the my comment relating to a dedicated retro machine. Put it this way, what's the best way to play a GBA game? On a system designed to play that content or on a PC emulating that content...its got to be the system designed for it surely.
