I also really enjoyed Pinball Dreams, the soundtrack too was quality.

I actually quite liked Space Ace. I got it as part of a boxed compilation called "Award Winners" that also included with Pipe Mania, Populous and Kick Off 2.

My brother had the first game and it was amazing, then my friend convinced me to swap it for Space Ace.

He is no longer my friend.

Right that's it, I'm invoking space corps directive 68250.

I blame the forum, the tags look right to me...

I was actually going to swap it over tonight thinking that this would be a week clearly I can't count oooops.

So in the interest of swapping things around a lot let's change time and company and go for The one, the only the original Sony PlayStation

What are your top 5 Playstation Games.

Ah yes, the PS1, a console that could produce absolute awesomeness and complete and utter frustration at the same time (especially since mine would only work on it's side).

Anyhow...

Final Fantasy 9
Formula 1 '97
Final Fantasy 7
Command & Conquer
Destruction Derby

Honourable mentions: Parappa The Rapper, Wipeout 2097, Theme Park, Sim City 2000, Toca 2 Touring Cars, Bomberman (value series).

PS1 wise, I'd say something like:

Ridge Racer Type 4
Soul Blade/Edge
Rage Racer
Gran Turismo
Bust-a-Move 2

Didn't get the console until '98 so didn't really play many of the launch/early games

Actually difficult to do this as I keep thinking of my favourite games but those aren't necessarily the ones I played most.

Honourable mentions go to: Tekken 2/3, Wip3out, Bloody Roar, Grand Theft Auto, Point Blank

PlayStation. The format that made gaming (a little bit) cool! I got the system at launch in September 1995, picking it up as part of an "interest free" pay-monthly package from Beatties. It came with Ridge Racer and I also picked up Destruction Derby. I still recall setting up the console and loading Ridge for the first time... wow! This felt like owning an arcade machine at home! Games coming on black compact discs felt exotic, too. I even loved the packaging; compact cases with a pretty reserved PlayStation logo on them. Later the PlayStation name would be emblazoned along the bottom, of course.

Before 1995 it often felt like only geeks such as myself were into gaming. PlayStation changed that; the adverts associating music, drugs ( :o ) and girls ( ) to the hobby attracted a broader range of folk and, suddenly, people whom I worked with were talking about PlayStation.

The system was popular for years, notably remaining so even after the launch of PlayStation 2. The revised PSone (and the optional LCD screen  ) attracted a new chunk of the more budget-conscious market.

I remain fond of PS/PSone even though I haven't played on one for a number of years now. The range of games was vast and, although some have aged rather a lot now, the original excitement remains in my eyes. As for my favourite five games...

> Pro Evolution Soccer - I had several versions from the original ISS Pro through to ISS Pro Evolution Soccer 2002. The original game, Goal Storm, is worth a look, too, albeit mainly for it's unintentionally funny commentary and sound effects.

> Ridge Racer - The entire series is great - don't forget Rage Racer! - but I remain fond of the second entry, Revolution.

> Destruction Derby - The original is impressive but limited; 2 is excellent and even Raw is decent enough.

> Sled Storm - Back in the days when EA made a wide range of games, Sled Storm was terrific; a fun, "extreme" racer that played well and had solid graphics and a good soundtrack.

> Twisted Metal World Tour - Blocky, warping graphics but the gameplay and design were brilliant. Really cool driving and crashing; I had a lot of fun playing this with a pal.

The first one had the best physics, the only drawback i found really was as you said, it was a little limited, especially as like a lot of early PS1 games, sony's idea of having a multiplayer system using LAN between two consoles was never going to work.

1. Castlevania Symphony of the night - still my favourite game of all time. Perfect combination of exploring, combat, secrets km top of secrets, the art and that music. Just a beautiful game. I managed to get max percentage completion too. Also the fact that the game was double the size you think it is. Mind blown.

2. Metal Gear Solid - played it and didn't understand how a game could be that good. Finished it in one epic day and started again. Like nothing else before it and still a wonderful game with some much personality.

3. Bloody Roar - imagine Tekken, but you get to turn into an animal during the fight. It was so different and exciting. It's a pretty simple game but one that never fails to grab my attention.

4. Final Fantasy 8 - never got into 7, so 8 was always my preference. It's a massive game with so much going on. I loved every system and the feeling of growing more powerful as the game went on. Also the gun sword is ridiculously cool.

5. Resident Evil 2 - a massive leap from the first game, loads more firepower and th ability to upgrade guns. The multiple playthroughs were encouraged and never got old. Scary, memorable and atmospheric.

Honorable mentions, Mortal Kombat Trilogy, Jumping Flash, Battle Arena Toshinden, Tekken 3, Loaded and Destruction Derby.

Wish my image sig would work

I never owned the original RR, loved the other three games though, Type 4 was just a marvelous game (including the amazing soundtrack) and Rage Racer had a brilliant urban European dirtiness to it.
