Never owned a DS, played about 5 minutes of both New Super Mario Bros. and Brain Training on demo units in shops but that's it for me

So my most played game would be.....

Project Rub, it was one of the first games I got and I found it wonderful daft fun, also used to be one of the first games I'd show people as an example of what made the DS so different.

Reading through the PlayStation games had me thinking back to what I could remember from that era. The only ones I know for sure are Crash Team Racing, Theme Park, and Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. Doubt that third one is part of my most played, though. There was plenty of stuff rented from Choices that it's kinda difficult to remember most. Something Rugrats, something Looney Tunes, a Land Before Time game, and some kind of capture the flag game I only have the vaguest memory of. And the Spyro games. Though I think those might have been owned as well.

As for DS, I do remember quite a lot I played on it. Mario Kart and Animal Crossing Wild World being the two massively played ones. Think Harvest Moon DS can also be added to that, with how long I spent with it. Then there's Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime which I just adored. Loved the tank battles of it and wished there could be something like it on Switch. Advance Wars: Dual Strike would also be up there, as I just loved creating maps on it and RPing as various armies. There was plenty I played with an R4 card, though aside from those bottom three (Kart and Crossing being some of the few DS games actually owned) I don't think many stuck with me.

I think mine were:

Pokemon Diamond - Put hundreds of hours into this one. I don't really know how but I do remember really liking this one. Loved the music, the blend of 3D and 2D visuals (even though it wasn't exactly impressive for DS) and that you could trade and battle online.

I actually decided to take a break from pokemon because I played it so much and thought I needed a break from the series for good. That's why I ended up skipping pokemon black/white until later when I got back into the games.

Metroid Prime Hunters - I would later look back at this as one of the weakest Metroid games but at the time I enjoyed the singleplayer a decent amount. What really hooked me though was the online multiplayer. I thought it was brilliant with the different characters and their abilities. Would love if we got something like that again. And the visuals for pretty great for NDS as well.

Mario Kart DS - Looking back I have mixed feelings about snaking now, but at the time this felt like the perfect Mario Kart game. Set the standard for the series we have today, but mechanically it was more interesting.

Animal Crossing: Wild World - First time I got super into this series. It helped that my friends were into it for a good while too, and there were towns I could visit online through the ONM forum. Nowadays I find Animal Crossing's multiplayer really boring but it felt special back then.

Advance Wars: Dual Strike - This is a somewhat a divisive entry with some seeing it as too gimmicky, but I really enjoyed all the different ways the game could be played and all the content it offered. I played the crap out of it back in the day, and more recently I picked it up again and set out to get S ranks in all the campaigns and war room missions, which I did, and I was still wishing there was more of it I could play.

Was there a time when Metroid Prime Hunters online wasn't completely full of hackers?

Over the year or so I played of the game I didn't really notice any. There were glitches in the game that might have made it seem like people were hacking - like you could glitch through some walls and then attack through them without fear of retaliation. Or Noxus could freeze people from far away depending on how you angled their attack. I can believe it might have been a big problem at some point but yeah.

Your list is pretty much exactly the same as mine, but I think for me I'd replace Pokemon Diamond with Tetris DS. Holy damn I remember playing a lot of that game.

Ok so I am back to do the rest of my Top 5 most played game and most of them are not as original as the first in fact most of you will have mentioned them

one of them is definitely Pokemon Diamond - Put hundreds of hours into this one myself as well.. Although to be fair every Pokemon game on the system would make my top 20 most played list.

Animal Crossing: Wild World ... I loved the GameCube game but there was something really really cool about having the whole Animal Crossing Experience on a handheld.... I loved this one so much it kind of caused me to bounce off the Wii one as that felt less easy to just jump on for a quick go.

Mario Kart DS ..... Lots of fun, I absolutely love this game, you can just pick it up again and again for a quick bash, so it would be lots and lots and lots of short goes over the years

Space Invaders Extreme 2.... Have to admit most of this was played using an R4 Card, I have only recently grabbed a real copy, this was also my mums fave DS games she played it all the time, and now she is no longer among us Its one of a handful of games that make me think of my mum and smile.

I see I am alone in spending far too long playing PicPic, for those wondering wtf it is:

The artwork was terrible but that's part of the charm, can't find a video of the other two game types which were far better than the maze paint mode shown here.

I think thats one of the best things about this kind of post, a lot of the time if you ask for the top ten games etc your going to get well published stuff everyone loves, go for something like most played and you might learn about something off the beaten path a little. A week or so ago I watched one of those missing gems type videos talking about under rated DS games and off the back of it I purchased Henry Hatsworth for £2.50 never heard of this back in the day, so there's always something you missed to learn about.

I hated it with a passion, the method ruined online play (which should have been an amazing novelty considering Nintendo only just started introducing it to their games at the time), and i found it so annoying, one of my rants ended up printed on the letters page of one of the mags (can't remember which, would have either been NOM or NGC).

Other than that though, it was still a great game (in single player mode).

I've never owned a 360 and have barely played on one, but there is one game I have played a decent amount of:

Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts

An old housemate had this set up in the living room and while I didn't finish the game, I loved playing it! It's a game I had sorely misjudged and discounted from afar and one that is unfairly derided by fans. No it's not a "proper" 3D platformer, but what it is is excellent!

For 360 the number 1 is easily Oblivion must have put close to 170 hrs into that across a couple of playthroughs. Second is likely Rock Band 1/2/3, 3rd probably Guitar Hero 3, 4th Halo 3 and 5th maybe Fallout 3.

Samurai Warriors 2/Xtreme Legends - I sunk hours and hours into this game, I absolutely love it
Burnout Paradise - Likeswise, I lost track of how much I played this
Mini Ninjas - Played through 3 or 4 times, it's genuinely criminal that it never got a sequel
Sonic and Sega All Star Racing - Probably my favourite karting game ever
This one is a cheat because I genuinely don't know which I played more but it's either Assassin's Creed 2,3 or 4

Please do not post this in the "No Context" thread

The top 5 would probably be made up of 5 of FIFA 09 to FIFA 15 but I'm not going to include them:

Bioshock - Got this with the console. Great introduction to the new generation! The graphics and atmosphere were fantastic.

Halo 3 - After a slightly disappointing single player Halo 2 this was Halo back to it's best.

Farcry 2 - Think this was the first non-linear entrance in the game? Loved the setting, loved travelling round the map, dropping into all your different outposts to stock up on things.

PGR4 - Wasn't too keen on the introduction of motorbikes but this was great. Enjoyed the calendar format. This was when I had a 5.1 surround sound set up. Hearing a car come from behind - from either side, was amazing.

Fight Night Champion - Between about 2012 and 2015 this was the only other game I played other than that years FIFA. Both the story mode and career mode were great. What's ever happened to licensed/serious boxing games?

Skyrim is top by a mile.

I played a fair bit of COD MW2 also, as it was a golden era when all my friends had a 360.

Rocksmith certainly swallowed up many hours of my time, and got me back to playing proper guitar again.

GTA5 and RDR probably make up the five. I wouldn't say there were that many games that I was going back to month after month. Great console though.
