There's no denying collectable figurines popularity. When I used to work for indie retailer Game On, I was ordering boxes and boxes of video game figures every month. Final Fantasy figures were particularly popular.
Best figurine I have is squishy metroid and I like splatoon inkling because it's just great character design. Literally only have 4 amiibo though and one was a secret Santa gift (smash bros Samus, other is M2 samus).
But generally I'd rather build and paint stuff myself, for example I have a couple one foot poseable gundams that when done well basically look real.
I like the wipeout ship.
The trouble with these is it's good to be selective. Nintendo's are pretty consistent.. Not sure this will be the case.
I don't do special editions with figurines, they're often oversized and pretty poor. strawberry float that gooseberry fool for the money involved.
I really wish they'd do more of the Sony mascot characters. I haven't got any of the figures yet because none stand out to me (I like the Feisar Wipeout ship, Parappa and the Horizon watcher, but I don't have a personal affinity to those series, and while I am a big LBP fan the Sackboy looks far too plastic).
Banjo is the first must for me, but I have been hoping for a Jak (and Daxter) and a Sly. I'd probably buy a Toro too if they did one! The current collection is overly skewed towards modern gaming - Evan from Ni no kuni 2 seems like a particular odd choice.
Though err the first Lemming came snapped from the stand in the spot, as you can see the pillar holding 'em up isn't terribly comprehensive. Thankfully got a replacement from GAME in swift order.
and next time I take a photo like this I'll try remember to dust beforehand...
