The horrible thing about cancer is its sheer utter randomness. You can try to live as cleanly as humanly possible, avoid all the main hazards and still get it either because of dumb luck or because you happened to be cursed at birth with a genetic susceptibility.

I would like to hope that something comes along that could help him but in reality the development of new treatments can take decades.

Horrible news :(

If I was him I'd definitely try ayahuasca, it's been known to cure cancer. It's obviously not guaranteed to work but what you got to lose in that situation? Just a quick search bought up the following:

He had liver cancer too.

Do you often contemplate the complexity of life?

My grandmothers on both sides of the family died from cancer, one with lung cancer (in her late 60's/early 70's), the other with ovarian cancer (mid 40's, she never saw any of her grandchildren  ), both smoked though.

I don't smoke and am not female so I dodged those two particular bullets (I realise that a non-smoker can get lung cancer but it's not very common).

Yeah, I don't remember anything about homeopathic treatments, but I could be wrong.

BTW, bleeding arseholes should always be taken seriously. A couple of years ago I had the full bumhole examination in hospital - a camera up the arse, the live broadcast of which I watched on a huge flat screen next to the bed. Luckily nothing untoward was found - just run of the mill hemorrhoids which can sometimes bleed if I strain too hard on the loo. I was checked out by three lovely female nurses who'd all seen it all before and were fantastically reassuring and professional (and thorough).

Bleeding from the bum can sometimes be an early warning of serious prostate issues, so alway, always, always get it checked out ASAP. It's more common in older men, but not unheard of in younger men. See your local doctor first, speak frankly, and if he/she is sufficiently concerned (after an initial examination in the surgery - yes, the finger up the arse routine) they'll refer you to your nearest suitable hospital for a full endoscopic examination. Nothing to worry about - it's not a painful process, just a little uncomfortable. Absolutely worth doing.

I'm 29 and just had this done (endoscopic this morning, twice, don't ask) and I'd call it fairly uncomfortable, but totally the right thing to do if there is blood. Doubly glad I did in light of this story, which is awful for TB.

I assume this was an existing concern, and not some mad dash to get probed in light of this story?

Only listened to a few of his podcasts, but not enough to get a real grasp on his politics. Seems he is very much a marmite YT personality.

Regardless, this is awful news. No age at all.

Jesus Christ, poor man.
When you're at the experimental trials stage it means the situation is so bad that it can't do any worst to you.

Bummer. Seems like there's little hope

I've also personally never understood the amount of hatred the guy gets. Fair enough if you don't enjoy his content but I've always been puzzled by how personal people get over him. (I've never enjoyed Caddicarus or PeanutButterGamer but have never hated them for it)

Christ, it's disappointing to see non-ironic talk of 'SJWs' and Anita Sarkeesian being a scam artist on here :/ Without fail I lose respect for anyone who uses the former, while the latter is handily disproven by this point. Agree 100% with Karl and Taf's sentiments, I've had issues with her videos but she's undoubtedly been a positive force in the discourse of games, as horrifying as it was to see the community's toxic underbelly in full force.

And yeah, I do feel for TotalBiscuit...though it does arise complicated feelings of being a former fan as opposed to a current one. I liked his affable and even sometimes self deprecating demeanour in videos, it helped me forgive his more pompous moments. His pro consumer stance and contribution to critical discourse on PC games also must be commended...but the GG stuff was hugely disappointing, recent tweets show that he's held onto that stance too. It's disgusting when such big figures use their platforms to spread this kind of harmful rhetroic, felt the same with Boogie and his both sides bullshit.

Still, cancer continues to be a horrible horrible thing, the last tweet from his wife got me choked up. I wish him the best while also hoping he takes time to reflect on some of the unfortunate things he's put forward.

He's shared an update - he's not eligible for the clinical trials as his liver is failing, and he's retiring as a game critic:

Strawberry-floatin' hell. What a horrible situation to be in. I hope that he and his family can find comfort during their time together.

Oh god...not to mention the first response from his wife:

[–]IntricacyGenna Bain[M] [score hidden] 7 hours agox3
Just wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone who has posted supportive comments and well wishes for my husband and our family. No doubt, this news will be difficult to take in for our entire fanbase — whether you’ve been with us since the days of BluePlz or a relative newcomer who tunes in weekly to the Co-Optional Podcast.

I won’t burden you all with details on just how badly this news has affected me, but please believe I am doing all I can to cope so that I can be the best possible support advocate for my husband’s care and comfort. That being said, I would appreciate the restraint of this community in posting any “WebMD” advice or “Dr Google” replies and DMs as I would rather spend this time with my husband. Thank you for your support and understanding.

-Genna Bain

Bless her :(

Jesus Christ.
Clinical trials are a last ditch hope. When you're too sick for that it means... make the person comfortable and everybody say the things that you have to say before you say goodbye. :(

Those are some weirdly specific eligibility rules.

But yes in seriousness that sucks
