PostTotal Biscuit has died of cancer aged 33

Total Biscuit wrote:Well, I don't know if there is really a right way to tell people this, so I guess here goes. The CT did not come back negative. The cancer in the bowel is gone, but spots have appeared in my liver. They're not operable and there's no cure. Average life expectancy is 2-3 years, though there are outliers that live much longer. I'll be back on chemo in a few weeks, with the goal of pushing it back and keeping it there for as long as possible. I fully intend to be the outlier, the average is this way because most people that get this are old and not strong anymore. Who knows what they'll come up with in the next decade? I intend to beat it for as long as possible. Gonna need some time to process all of this. I don't really feel anything right now. Thanks.

I'm not his biggest fan, but that's just horrible. I like watching his "WTF is?" videos every so often, and I can't help but imagine how gutted he must be to know that x, y and z great thing is coming out soon-ish and he won't get to experience them. :(

Cancer is a banana split. When it gets to the liver, that usually spells the end.

I've watched a few of John Bain's videos and podcasts but am not a regular. But I like that he speaks his mind without fear of losing popularity. However when I read his tweet I felt very very sad for the guy. Spots on the liver is serious. A little while ago he spoke about a consequence of his treatment being that he had (to put it mildly) his insides pop out and he had to push them back in again, but at the time he was in the clear. The struggles he has faced and for a guy so young it's just cruel. Cancer is an utter bastard that affects most people or their families. I really hope there is a treatment that can give him a good quality of life for as long as possible.

I hate his YouTube videos, find his persona gut wrenchingly annoying and consider his personal views on the whole Gamer Gate thing to be extremely questionable but still... no one deserves this gooseberry fool. Sad story.

I don't really like the guy either, but this is awful.

The sad thing is is that this probably could've been prevented, but he decided that he wanted to try natural treatments for as long as possible and they've proven time and time again to not work. He only started conventional treatments last time when he realised he'd strawberry floated up and by that point he was too late.

Horrible persona or not, nobody deserves to die that young.

No one deserves that. Hopefully he gets enough time to do what he wants.

I haven't seen any of his videos. I had to google what he looks like.

Nobody deserves what he is going to go through, or has been through. strawberry floating cancer.

Every time I hear about this, it's tragic. To quote Tim Minchin "Alternative medicine, by definition has either not been proven to work, or been proven not to work. You know what they call alternative medicine that's been proven to work? Medicine."

A sad case, any way you cut it.

Wow. This is a terrible news. TB has long been a YT subscription of mine and while I might sometimes take issue with some of his more pontificating videos I always come back for more - because he's an interesting and professional broadcaster. I know he's been fighting off this cancer for a while and the last I heard from him was that he seemed to be on the mend. God damn cancer. It stole my own mother away back in 2009 (throat cancer - and elsewhere in the body) and I've lost count of the others in my life over the years (I'm now 52) who have since fallen away, victim of one sort of cancer or other.

gooseberry fool. I can't imagine how he must feel - despite my own experiences of seeing those around me suffer with a terminal prognosis. Terrible. Just terrible. And now words fail me.

Is that true? Im pretty sure the story was that he just ignored his bleeding arsehole for the best part of a year, and then as soon as he found out he hit the chemo hard. I dont recall this natural remedy stuff at all.

Yeah, I don't remember anything about homeopathic treatments, but I could be wrong.

BTW, bleeding arseholes should always be taken seriously. A couple of years ago I had the full bumhole examination in hospital - a camera up the arse, the live broadcast of which I watched on a huge flat screen next to the bed. Luckily nothing untoward was found - just run of the mill hemorrhoids which can sometimes bleed if I strain too hard on the loo. I was checked out by three lovely female nurses who'd all seen it all before and were fantastically reassuring and professional (and thorough).

Bleeding from the bum can sometimes be an early warning of serious prostate issues, so alway, always, always get it checked out ASAP. It's more common in older men, but not unheard of in younger men. See your local doctor first, speak frankly, and if he/she is sufficiently concerned (after an initial examination in the surgery - yes, the finger up the arse routine) they'll refer you to your nearest suitable hospital for a full endoscopic examination. Nothing to worry about - it's not a painful process, just a little uncomfortable. Absolutely worth doing.

31 is no age to find out you have untreatable cancer, poor bloke must be going through hell.

I agree but chemo/radiotherapy is a scary and horrible treatment as it makes you feel extremely ill so I see why some people would consider alternatives, I personally wouldn't hesitate to have the most effective treatment though as that's the only real chance of beating a truly awful illness.

I'm finding the alternative treatment stuff a little hard to believe. Based on the few videos of his I've seen, he doesn't strike me as the kind of person to go that route at all. His original video talking about his cancer makes no mention of it either if I recall correctly. I thought it was pretty much down to what Falsey said, that he just took a while to bother getting checked out.

This is shitty though. No idea what kind of money he makes but hopefully he can get his family enough to be comfortable for a time afterwards and have some spare to enjoy himself.
