If you go to Lancaster, you need to visit the Ashton Memorial. You can get a really nice view of the Bay and the Lake District from up there. There is also a Butterfly house there if that's your kind of thing. If you want to visit a good pub, the Water Witch has an awesome selection of beers, it's in between the city hospital and the canal. It usually wins Camra awards and also has a nice selection of spirits. Failing that, there is the Sun Inn which has some "oldest in Britain" thing associated with it.

We're in Lancaster now. Went to the Bay Horse Inn for tea and I had the Cumbrian Lamb - which was very nice. We're staying at the Penny Street Bridge Hotel and it is very nice. There was no wifi in our room and they've very kindly given me a 5m cable so I can sit in bed and play with my internet.
