Feels a bit cheap the Maplins CEO trying to blame Brexit when they've been circling the drain since long before that whole thing happened. Like he doesn't quite realise that he's the guy running the company - The buck stops with him.

They never had the best price or have the best range, that's what caused the "low consumer confidence". Too reliant on drones and dodgy DJ equipment, too.

Shame, I like Maplin, they were very handy when I was doing soft mods for consoles but I havent used them in years. I can see why they would struggle though, a lot their target market tends be internet savvy and can find the same stuff cheaper online.

Outdated and never changed with the times. TRU was just walking through a warehouse - which was amazing years ago when there was no internet, and most towns had crap/no toy stores. They never compete on price and the warehouse approach means no (shudder) 'retail theatre' to make the experience stand out.

When I was younger town had a Woolies (limited selection, but often newer, stuff) for toys.

You could go into Oxford though and there were a few "stores that had toys" (I can't recall an actual toy story).

Toys R Us (in Swindon, eventually Oxford got one!) is where you went for big things...like Titanus

(God looking that that's such over priced barely functional tosh. Little Me loved it though )

I have never used Maplin, but I used to love Toys R Us as a kid. Every Boxing Day my dad would take me and my brother there to spend any Christmas money we had been given and we would wander around the massive warehouse looking at all the toys and wondering what the hell to buy.

It never moved with the times and only has itself to blame, but it’s quite sad that I will never get to take my lad there on Boxing Day.

Went into Toys R Us to see if there was anything worth looting like a lone hyena. Nothing at all. Not only was there nothing really discounted out of the ordinary, there was no consoles or games whatsoever now. So my mental image of purchasing an Xbox One X for half price went up in smoke.

I really like the brand though; used to go in there all the time as a kid. What was really obvious however was how their shops hadn't changed from the 90s. Almost like walking into a time machine.

I think Toys R Us have also taken quite a pounding in recent years by the emergence of The Entertainer stores.

This is a real shame for me. Used to love toysrus as a kid, and use maplin quite a bit for the odd cable/connector I want right away.

Gone the same way as blockbuster and woolworths. Soon the high street will just be coffee shops and hair dressers.

I'm hoping for a fire sale at Toys R Us with some cheap Lego.

I used to go out with a girl who lived in Yeovil. We went to the nightclub once, it was called “Le Jardin”. She told me that it used to be called “The Gardens” but it got trashed one night and when they reopened they changed the name to make it sound more fancy.
