Sad about Toys R Us but Maplin has pretty much been dying for the last few years what with it being overpriced as hell. Blaming Brexit rather than the failure of Maplin to modernise is ridiculous.

The only things I remember buying from Toys R us were Shinobi and Michael Jackson's Moonwalker on the Sega Master System and the occasional wrestling figure.

I remember Toy 'r Us putting my old favourite toy shop out of business, which I was actually annoyed about. The old toy shop was a wonderful place sprawling multiple floors, a miniature fairground ride at the front, model trains running in circuits above the shelves and all sorts of stuff hidden away in different places. TRU was so boring and sterile by comparison. Now it has gone the same way. I have a feeling kids in the future are just going to have to point out things on Amazon to their parents. It's kind of a shame.

The Toys R Us adverts are just as iconic as the Coca Cola ads cause as soon as you saw the Toys R Us ads you knew it was xmas time and the song is catchy

The US Toy r Us have also started to close as well so neither of these businesses have been totally done in by Brexit. But people have stopped shopping as much due to Brexit, so I fairly sure Brexit hasn't helped. The UK retail has been in a bad way for years though.

Was at work talking about this a few days ago and i said this year some big names will disappear from the high street Maplins & Toys R Us are the first ones this year expect more big names to go. Cost of rent not changing their business model to get with Online Tech not competitive prices in store.

It never moved with the times and only has itself to blame, but it’s quite sad that I will never get to take my lad there on Boxing Day.

You can take your lad to the Apple store as that’s where kids want to go nowadays.

Toys r us was never going to last in this climate unless they changed their approach. It’s not just Amazon taking their business. It’s the pound stores also.

Argos are the only retail who seems to be fighting back against Amazon with its fast track delivery. People don’t just use amazon because they cheap as sometimes they are not. It’s there quick prime delivery. You could probably find stuff cheaper on eBay than amazon.

Really sad about Toys R Us  I loved that shop when I was younger and still liked going in now to buy Games and Lego, but I have been going to smyths toys more lately, Maplin I have been in but it always seemed like a shop that would fail and I never had a reason or need to shop there

It’s interesting how Smyths seems to be growing and becoming more profitable whilst toys r us has worsened every year. They essentially have the same core business model so there is clearly still a market for a large toy superstore.

In other news Prezzo are clearly struggling and all Chimichanga restaurants are closing down.

Maplin was the closest equivalent to Radioshack we had over here, I think. I'm gonna miss them. The people that work in my local one are pretty chill. Guess I'll have to stick to Amazon now.

Used to love Toys R Us when I was a kid. Used to go in and play NES games then buy my favourite with birthday money. Must be 25 years since I last stepped inside one, so no idea what they're like now.

Maplin used to be great for odd electronics, and has helped me fix my car once or twice. These days they focused too much on toys and drones but at much higher prices than online.

And nothing of value was lost. Of all the chain restaurants I've been to, Chiminfuckingchanga is the worst. Imagine spending actual money in that place and considering it a treat :dread:

Does this mean I've missed the boat on the #chimichallenge.

I guess I have lost all the points on my toys r us card now then, I would go and see if there is any Lego reduced but the weather is stopping me and I’d feel bad for the staff

If it helps I popped in the local one, sale signs everywhere saying stuff is on sale and pretty much regular prices maybe the odd extra pound or two knocked of here and there not worth the petrol really.

I went there a while ago and can confirm it was god awful. I started out in Weatherspoons and think it would have been a better idea to eat there.

Just don't look any of them in the eye as you raid their discounted Lego. Job done.
