Just a quick thread to clear up some confusion that I'm too lazy to take to the MS support.

I upgraded from retail home 7 premium to 10. I have a new PC arriving tomorrow and want this win10 on it.

I had a look around and some people were saying just format my current computer to get rid of the OS, install 7 on the new one and upgrade again.

Saw others saying to install 10 off a USB and that my 7 product code will still work for activating 10.

Saw others still saying you can't transfer the free upgrade even if it's upgraded from retail and I need to pony up for a new code, though I'm pretty sure they got told to sit down and shut up pretty sharpish.

Long story short: when I try to install the OS tomorrow should I be OK using this USB I made using the Microsoft site and my 7 code? Or will I have to go the long way around?

I would expect you need to install 7 again and upgrade. It only takes about 2hrs. You're entitled to the free upgrade about a week longer and retail copies of Windows are transferable.

Yeah I'm going to say 7 first, I've not move the OS from one machine to another but just reinstalling 10 on my one machine needed me to install from the lower os in my case 8 and then upgrade.

Right, cheers. Guess it's the long way.
