Tree gets chopped down, England demands blood

A tree near Hexham in Northumberland has been cut down in an act of vandalism. The tree was featured in Robin Hood Price of Thieves and about a billion tourist photos.

Local radio up here has been interesting over the last few days, with many saying they have been brought to tears, it's ripped the heart out of the north and it's like cutting down the Tyne Bridge.

So far police have spoken to a 16 year old and a person in their 60s.

I mean, it’s a massive shame that the tree got cut down by absolute knobs as it was a site of interest for sure ( I went there myself last year and it’s a popular attraction and part of an interesting heritage site) I hope whoever done it is punished severely and fined a gooseberry fool ton, absolutely no need to have done it other than being c*nts.

Seems like such a weird thing to happen tbh, the tree is right out in the middle of nowhere so i really don't get why someone would go to that much effort.

The kid who did it is an asshole is why. He tried to do it for clout.

Well there is that, but still, something just doesn't add up, for a start, how the hell would a 16yr old get all the way out there in the dead of night and do what looks like a professional spot of tree felling all by himself?

60 Year old man has been arrested and under questioning. No doubt will be the farmer who owns some of the land and he paid the kid to cut it down. strawberry floaters all of them. 300 year old Tree gone just like that.

I don't support cutting down trees like that. And it was in a very picturesque location.

But I don't feel the outrage that so many other people seem to be feeling.

I think the issue is that it seems to have been done for the sole purpose of pissing people off.

Had the tree been damaged by storms or been infected by some tree disease (in other words, an unavoidable scenario) then people wouldn't be so aggro.

It's the fact there's no clear gain for committing such a crime other than just being a pure dickhead that pisses me off. Ruining a picturesque bit of natural beauty for absolutely no reason. strawberry floating banana splits.

Pretty much my take. Although, I wouldn't be surprised if it's been filmed and done just for views on TikTok or some other shite.

There's about 2 trees in the UK which shouldn't be cut down.

Yeah its a shame that this tree has been cut down for no reason, other than for the kids to probably to gain a reputation within a social circle, or a single disgruntled person who's paid relatively unaware kids to chop down said tree despite it being a couple of miles away from anything else really, I think thats why there has been the outrage, its just so unnecessary.

The way some people are harking on on social media, it does seem like they want the people responsible to be cut down themselves though, which may be a little over the top.
