But what happens if there is a catastrophic failure or attack leaving backups wiped or partially wiped? How would you prove how much money should be in your account and potentially worse, how would you prove a debt was cleared?

Pretty sure that's the plot of Goldeneye.

I've been with TSB all my life and luckily not had any issues. That said I also have an account with Lloyds that went to them when the pair split that my wages go into. My TSB accounts never tend to have much in them as a result.

My account was originally a Lloyd’s one, which I’d had since around 1994, then when Lloyd’s TSB split it became a TSB one.

I joined TSB recently for a £130 switch offer plus their regular bonus'. I've had no issues with them over the new systems other than Internet banking frequently being out. They;'ve also upped my interest rate from 3% to 5% which is good.

However the cheeky strawberry floats think they can drop one of the £5 monthly rewards (the direct debit one). Along with feeling that my money isn't safe, this is a big blow, so I'll be flying out of there the second a new switching incentive comes out with a bank I've not been with yet appears.

Looking around I'm quite tempted to switch to Natwest.
They currently have an account that has a £2/month fee, but it gives you £100 to switch and 2% cashback on your bills each month (Council tax/energy/broadband/water/mobile), so if the bills going out are more than £100/month then you already pay off the fee and everything else is cash back in your account.

My eligible bills would total about £263/month so that's over £5/month cashback, so £3/month after the fee.
You also get 1% cashback for using your debit card at certain retailers (though the list of retailers is pretty small and very naff)

Other one I'm looking at is HSBC who offer £150 to switch and another £50 if you stay for a year. (Needs at least £1,750/month paying in though)

Santander do the cashback on more bills for £1 a month. :shifty: No cash incentive though.

Fabian Delph is a banana split.

I use NatWest for the cashback and a cheeky way to make some extra money is to use the cashback reward credit card as that pays 0.5% on all purchases and they usually throw in extra offer's just for the credit card.

The card is meant to have a £22 a year fee but it's waived as part of the whole cashback deal.

I pay my card off every week use it for everyday spending and the money gets out into my holiday fund.

Nationwide is your best bet, you don't get cashback but you'll get 5% on 2500 and access to a 5% regular saver. Also if you want a £100 joining incentive you can get that by being recommended by someone with the account. Just OM me if you want the code.

And you can get their credit card that give 0.5% cashback on all spends and is free to use abroad.
