Or being generous? Turok was £70 on the N64 when released.

And £5 on Steam when remastered.

Someone kindly gave me a code for free. Still felt slightly robbed (for time to download and play).

Yes?

This is a ridiculous line. What's next?
"Perhaps if sales are strong for this year's release of Madden then EA will have some of the capital needed to push forward with a new Desert Strike"
strawberry float off.

They were actually working on a System Shock remaster though, it says so in the first line of the article.

Which they’ve had to put ‘on haitus’ because they’ve royally strawberry floated up the development, wasting backers money (they raised the cash on Kickstarter or something). This reeks of desperately trying to make a few quid off the back off some misguided nostalgia - Turok is shite.

Turok wasn't shite, just overrated. It had great weaponry that were fun to use, and a decent array of beasts to butcher in various gruesome ways (this was "adult" remember). The levels were massive and fairly complex, almost to the point of being too big and confusing. The game was pretty hard too, almost a survival shooter in how it asked you to conserve ammo for big encounters, scavange for items and ammo and in how dark and creepy the later levels were. Not to mention the difficulty, which was pretty hard in places. Back in the day of health packs too, and long gaps between save points.

It was old-school, whether deliberately by design or because that's generally how FPS games were pre-GoldenEye and Half Life (T2 actually came out a year after GoldenEye and maybe a few months after HL, but presumably had been in development long before they were released). There was no real A.I. and it was a logical extension of where Doom took the genre really. It did have objectives mind and it was "fun" when you got to the end of the level and one hadn't materialised, so it was back you went to the start.

The first one was horrendously foggy but the second looked amazing for the time and had excellent audio (a moody soundtrack, great sound effects and, gasp, voice acting).

It wasn't as good as GoldenEye, and definitely a game you would only play once, rather than something you could mess around with for years like Rare's game. But it definitely wasn't shite.

Turok 3, unfortunately, didn't move with the times quick enough though. That came out after Perfect Dark and the FPS genre had long since moved on. The series had become a bit of a - wait for it - dinosaur by this point. LOLZ.

Turok 2 was mediocre. The level design is awful.

I got it for Christmas one year with OoT.

Loved both back in the day but watching the video shows how badly they've aged.

I've still got my Turok 1, 2 and 3 carts for the N64. Will have to dig 'em out and go dinosaur huntin' some time :) .

It's surprising that there's no decent dinosaur games, surely with Jurassic World's popularity there's demand for one.

I'd love a Jurassic Park game with Uncharted/Tomb Raider mechanics or a true successor to the original Dino Crisis.

Turok: Evolution on PS2, Xbox and GC was definitely mediocre, I remember that much. Because I bought it. :fp:

I remember at the time Turok 2 was getting rave previews (and reviews?)

I saved up loads of my pocket money and birthday money. (So young).

And it was....gooseberry fool? I think I got to third "Defend the tower" section and stopped...it was all just...devoid of fun

Style over substance. I seem to remember it being one of the first titles to use the expansion pack thing. It did look pretty good at that time.

Have they at least fixed the awful draw distance in the first game or is it still as foggy as ever?

Turok 2 was really impressive at the time but it hasn't aged well at all. The strawberry floating size of the levels :dread:

I remember liking both, but finding them incredibly confusing to navigate. Turok was the first game I got along with goldeneye. 2 looked "great" at the time with the expansion pack, but again I struggled with it, and mostly used cheats.

I watched some videos earlier and the levels in the second ones looked to be over an hour long each

It didn't help that the save points were few and far between.

NightDive Studios are bringing Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion to Switch, Xbox, PlayStation and PC on 14 November!

I played a little of this on the N64 and it had such an eerie atmosphere.

^ NightDive are also currently holding a sale in the PlayStation Store on some of their other excellent updates.
