PostTurok & Turok 2 (Xbox One) - March 2nd
by more heat than light » Fri Feb 23, 2018 10:54 pm

Nightdive Studios, which recently put a System Shock remaster on hiatus, are bringing two of their other remasters to Xbox One next week. Pre-orders for Turok and Turok 2: Seeds of Evil popped up on the Xbox Marketplace today, and a short gameplay trailer was released on the developer's Youtube channel, which you can see below. Perhaps if sales are strong for these games, they'll get some of the capital needed to push forward with System Shock.

The games will be $19.99 each, and release next Friday, March 2nd.

Well this came out of nowhere. I was never a massive fan myself (I think Turok 2 in particular was wildly overrated) but I know there are fans. Pretty pricey for what look like barebones ports.

Any interest?

Nightdive have been doing some really good work releasing old PC games on Steam. Their ports of Turok 1 and 2 are amazing. They also ported Shadow Man, which runs pretty well, especially compared to the original.

Nightdive might be my favourite dev company.

It's pretty weird that the Xbox One has more N64 games playable on it than the Switch does.

Stretching the term ‘Remaster’ to breaking point, though that may just be the article writer.

After some of the stuff we’ve seen over the years (Resident Evil, Tomb Raider Anniversary, Crash Badicoot N-Sane Trilogy, Wipeout, Shadow of the Colossus, even COD Modern Warfare) I think we should expect more from games calling themselves remastered. This is more ‘Here’s Resident Evil 3 on GameCube’. Not a problem on its own, but $40 for 2 old titles is a bit much.

I think there has to be a reason to go back into the vault.

Bought both of these for PC. Really good games.

It's definitely just the article writer. Nightdive considers themselves a "publisher of classic videogames" (taken off their website), and actually take requests for old videogames to be "unearthed" by them, so to speak.

It's the ridiculously OTT price I remember the most.

Oh and also that you needed a memory card as well, and that there was a bug which broke the game half way through if you were using a third party memory card.

Very poor.

So far this year, I have eaten NO mince pies.

I still have fond memories of going into Electronic Boutique and throwing down £90 on Turok and a memory card as you couldn’t save otherwise

Um no wait...

Where this is this Shadowman port of which ye speak? I download it from COG, (for the princely price of £0.69.) But it refuses to run on my Mac.

Edit: found it on Steam. Will definitely download later on. Looks like it's set up for High Sierra too.

The one I've used is the one on Steam.

I recommend playing a demo before spending money on this. I liked this 20 years ago but abandoned it after 10 minutes on the PC.

I quite enjoyed it first time round. Got a few levels into it but gave up due to lack of save points.

Surely most of the games you listed there fall into the category of remake?

Perhaps if sales are strong for these games, they'll get some of the capital needed to push forward with System Shock.

This is a ridiculous line. What's next?

I'd actually like a new desert strike. I like the turok games but yeah this is a high price in my opinion.

Or being generous? Turok was £70 on the N64 when released.

They were actually working on a System Shock remaster though, it says so in the first line of the article.
