Pretty much this to be honest.

You sort of can. If you sign up by direct debit to pay monthly you can just contact them to cancel the licence anytime

Keep it. Not that I pay for it as I don't have a TV or watch iPlayer. It's an important service even if I don't currently make use of it myself.

I would overhaul the TV license collection system though - the threatening, hysterical, misleading letters are terrible.

Haven’t watched terrestrial (is that the right word any more?) tv for several years myself, but I don’t see why it should be scrapped. Surely fewer people than ever need one, anyway.

I guess the only problem with that is governments can cut the budgets easier.

It’s great having a broadcaster that isn’t beholden to rich old men or commercial sponsors, but I can see why paying a licence fee grates.

I think it’d be something that people would really miss if it was gone.

Agree with this. So much value across the BBC in my opinion, I must admit that I watch less broadcast tv nowadays but I have the radio on all the time and would honestly pay the fee for 6music alone.

I feel pretty comfortable with the value; in my view the quality of the BBC's TV and online services are usually better than commercial offerings and the lack of advertising is attractive. I also like that the BBC has to produce media coverage for niche areas, too, whilst commercial stations are generally focussed on viewing figures.

No because I know my contribution goes towards funding fantastic shows like Planet Earth and Blue Planet, and yes there have been one or two other shows that I enjoy from time to time. Also putting the BBC in the hands of the Rupert Murdochs of the world isn't a good idea. What I'd would like to see, however, is less going into the pockets of the fat cats at the BBC.

Keep it.

I mean, it gives me Dr Who AND it annoys Cal.

It works on so many levels.

I don't see how the BBC cant afford to run without the license fee... Take something as big as Dr Who, there are DVD's, comics, magazines, posters, toys, merchandise etc being made all of the time and your telling me that despite all of this you still cant make more Doctor Who without me paying my license?

Isn't it sort of like that in that if you don't use any of the services you don't have to pay?

Not when it comes to TV packages like Sky or Virgin Media. If the BBC blocked its channels off on those platforms though the licence covers anything shown live - a football game on Sky Sports for example.

Actually come to think of it I wonder why Sky, etc, don't exclude the BBC channels.

Ah I didn't no that.

My thoughts are that I'm glad it exists so that niche programming can be made that isn't reliant on the amount of viewers but to me personally it's not the best value compared to other services I use.

I don't know how people can still get confused by the licence. It's incredibly simple.

Do you watch/record/stream live television on any channel through any service?

Yes - You need a TV licence
No - You do not need a TV licence

Nuke Scotland until it sinks into the ocean. It’s the only way to fix the problem.
