PostTV series with the worst ending. [SPOILERS obvs]
by Peter Crisp » Fri Oct 07, 2016 11:34 am

I got chatting with a friend at work about Falling Skies and how the ending is perhaps the worst in history.

The series starts off well enough with a decent premise (aliens have conquered earth and this is a story about the human resistance and the fight to kick out the alien scum which isn't hugely original but solid enough) with some great characters lead by the actor Noah Wyle who I enjoyed in ER so the scene was set for a decent final series with everything leading up to a giant final push and battle. The characters we're decent with some who actually had half decent motivations (we had a shady type who while at times selfish could display acts of surprising compassion and a couple of young guys who had been turned into alien workers who had been liberated and had a tentative mind link to the alien high command) and some great single episodes.

Then the final battle arrives and instead of going to the hinted at alien homeworld or using the alien human sympathisers and allies (there were loads of fan theories about how the battle would proceed and all better than what happened) they simply went to the alien base city and through a tunnel where they met the alien Queen and blew her up as she seemingly had almost zero guards despite the resistance closing in and that meant the war was over as all the other aliens on earth were disabled due to hive mind bollocks.

They hinted at a battle but all the showed was a 30 second clip of a few people getting killed and just to rub salt into the wound they spent the last half of what should have been a glorious ending in a strawberry floating UN conference congratulating themselves on a job well done and saying what a fun series it was to make.

strawberry float YOU FALLING SKIES!!!!!!!!!!!!

4 years I waited for that final battle and you give us that?

Can someone top that for sheer soul destroying frustration and a giant middle finger to the fans?

I'm gonna kick things off with Lost and Dexter.

It's Dexter.
He fakes his own death by sailing into a hurricane and becomes a lumberjack, in the process abandoning his son with a woman he barely knows.

Lost's ending was actually good.

I agree on falling skies. I loved that series at the start and stuck with it just hoping for a good payoff to the story. I think the problem was as it went on the ratings dropped and budgets got cut so they just ended up scraping together an ending. As a premise the show was great.

I'd rather they just had a final episode where they just had all the actors sat around a table and they just talked about how the series should end instead of what we got. Just admit they have strawberry float all money left and buy themselves a massive cake and give the rest to charity.

Didn't Deadwood just kind of end with a whimper? I think there was supposed to be a new series, or a continuation of the story via a film, but neither happened and so it all felt like a bit of a incomplete disappointment.

How I met your mother retroactively makes every episode but the pilot and finale redundant.
That's quite the achievement.

Lost. Just simply awful.

Same goes for a lot of the new Doctor Who series. That send off to Rory and Amy was strawberry floating terrible and made no sense. They can't leave the hotel yet she published a book? What?

I really enjoyed Lost's ending. The story had tied itself up in knots and it's difficult to know how else they could have ended it without leaving a load of unanswered questions.

The obvious winner is Dexter, unless you count that awful extra episode of Prison Break where they ruined everything.

Not sure of the tv show but a US medical or cop drama was just a dream in the mind of a kid.

Quantum Leap just kinda ended without him making it home.

Wish my image sig would work

It's not the worst, but I know that the ending of the Sopranos is extremely divisive. I liked it, but other people I know thought it was super-lame.

Thanks for spoiling Falling Skies Pete. Hopefully I'll have forgotten this by the time the last series shows on Netflix.

Without looking it up, I think the government got him? And presumably sliced him up.

Keeping it 80s, a man on TV last night said Dynasty ended with a dude going away in an alien spaceship.

Deadwood S3 just ended the season, there was a 4th planned at the time. I think it's unfair to include it when it wasn't supposed to be the actual ending.

As for the true worst ending done on purpose, it has to be Dexter, hands down.

The film looks like it is actually going to happen. The script is written, cast are interested (Timothy Olyphant is no longer tied to Justified), and HBO are on board.

There was nothing wrong with the Lost ending :shifty:
