I'd like to try the game out but I don't think I'd buy it.

Most of the songs don't interest me and would need to get some DLC. I've already got a lot of songs in Rock Band already and don't want two separate collections.

The UI looks better than RB's but it's upside down. I'm used to reading tabs with the first string at the top, rather than this with the first string at the bottom.

You can switch it round if you're used to the proper tab string layout.

The tracklist is dire though, so be prepared to pick up 10/15 DLC tracks (at 240 points each :| ) on top of the price of the actual game.

Seems pretty thorough on teaching the techniques, too. There's a whole load of minigames to help improve your tremolo picking, scales and whatever.

Thinking of picking this up would it be a good way of learning how to play the guitar if so how much am I looking for a guitar to go with it.

Cheers

I think it's a better way of learning than just sitting down with a standard tab (especially for solo sections and the like). It's got an adaptive difficulty so you start off just playing one note a bar, then it adds in more notes as you build up a combo until you're playing the full riff. Even when you're not playing the whole song it feels pretty badass. If you're a complete beginner then there's also a whole load of video lessons that seem to talk you through how to play hammer-ons and pull-offs and slides and other techniques.

There's a special edition that comes with the game and an Epiphone Les Paul Junior for about £110, I think.

Cheers will look into getting this.

There's a demo of this up on Steam. Except you can't play it if you don't have the cable.

LewisD, who I think works in a guitar store, doesn't recommend it. Look for his post on the first page.

It would be worth paying more for a guitar (better quality, possibly better out of the box as well) but it depends on what you can afford.

Pfft, I've been using a cheap knock-off for years, and it still sounds pretty damn good. Only cost me £130.

I think he's talking about a different guitar (LewisD) but I might be wrong.

Tbh it's around £130 for the guitar pack that can't be too bad can it?

The Les Paul Junior is an incredibly basic guitar (it's only £100 on it's own), but I imagine it won't be that bad for an absolute beginner. Everyone starts off with a cheap geetar :shifty:

There's a few reviews here: http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/reviews/electric_guitars/epiphone/les_paul_junior/index.html

Aye, the Epiphone Les Paul Junior is really basic - however putting a better guitar in it would made the price sky high.. Pretty off putting for newbies or "I'll give it a go"ers.

You'll find that it'll do the trick - but the necks feel awful and the tuners are dog gooseberry fool.
If you have a better guitar, just use that instead I guess.

Saw a guy playing this outside reading festival arena, seemed pretty cool so I'd like to give it a bash I think.

I'm having a lot of fun with my mate's copy of this, but I really need to build up some calluses on my fingers, because holy strawberry floating gooseberry fool, I've never sat and played guitar for so long in one sitting before.

I think I'm going to put it away and give it back, though, while I wait for my own copy to arrive. I don't want to have to go through too much of the same stuff again when I switch to PS3.

It's been a year since this was released in the US so I'm tempted to wait for the inevitable sequel.

Is there anything like this on PC? I have a guitar but being left-handed I always got muddled up when trying to reverse tabs and so never really got very far. I know there is software that automatically reverses tabs but I still find it awkward learning that way.

However, I can play Moon Over the Castle.. but nothing else.

Why do you need to reverse tabs? Are you playing with the guitar strung upside-down or something?

Can't you just string it the right way up?

You... Don't need to flip tabs?
Unless you mean you want them to read right to left?

The high e (thin string) is always at the top - regardless of left handed or not.
