I did enjoy Rock Band, but to be able to plug my own guitar in sounds excellent. Can you make up your own stuff? What sort of guitar lessons are included in the game? I hear there is a 'free' mode where a backing band plays along to you whilst you play whatever you want.. this sounds great as I've been practising guitar scales for improvised soloing....

I'm pretty good at guitar and I play the last one to just play along with songs. There seems to be this thing hanging over these where everyone thinks it's a 'learn TEH gitarz tiem' tutor or something. Think of it more like guitar hero but playing it properly.

No, it's just 360 and PS3. Buy it!

The game may be marketed towards learning the guitar but it's definitely suitable for more experienced players. The lessons are optional but the only reason to maybe play through them would be to learn the notation the game uses for the different techniques.

There's nothing that allows you to create songs but there is Session Mode, which allows you to play along with a backing band. It's great fun to play and there are so many options, from type of scale to what kind of backing band you want.

Some of the songs are fairly simple, such as Blitzkreig Bop by The Ramones, but then there's Satch Boogie by Joe Satriani if you want to test your skills!

Still getting in at least an hour on this everyday. Anymore than that and my fingertips start to hurt too much. Hopefully it will get better with time.

Played Don't Look Back in Anger and sucked even on the easiest setting. It's the first song in the list that has chords throughout which I wasn't ready for. Put the song into riff repeater and did the part were it switches from C to F. C I have no trouble with but F comes and goes. Did about half hour of just that and I did start to get quicker on the change but still nowhere near what I need to be to play the song at full speed. Think I'll stick with this tomorrow and try to improve C to F. Want to stick with this song till I'm ok at it. That is what they suggest for the 60 day challenge, pick one song and learn it.

F is really hard if i remember rightly. You have to bend the finger in a ridiculous manner! :slol:

F is a tough chord for beginners to get the hang of. Practice getting the shape right so that all of the strings ring clearly. Then practice changing between C and F slowly, making sure you get the change right rather than trying to do it too quickly.

--

I mastered my first song yesterday. But it's just Blitzkreig Bop which only has four power chords. Managed to get a platinum on master difficulty playing that song in score attack as well.

Most of the time I've spent playing this so far has mostly between Session Mode and Guitarcade. Playing a 12 bar scale with the bluegrass band at 150bpm is great fun.

Does anyone want to take over this topic? I don't care either way but if someone wants it then ask a mod

I don't think I am ever going to get into this and I didn't even realise that there was a second game out until the other day!

I'd be happy to take it over.

Nice one Pred, you can announce that tomorrow will be a 5 song DLC of Smashing Pumpkins. Today and Bullet with butterfly wings seems to be a given.

That's the OP updated for RS2014. I've got the relevant info there for now but more could be added later.

Thanks for the advice. The full finger across the first fret will take time to get perfect. I may give Blitzkrieg Bop a look.

No problem. We've all been there so you're not alone! I'd also recommend you to check out Justin Guitar. It's got a great beginner course that would be really worth looking at. There's also a lesson on the F chord. The video should be really useful to give you an idea of finger placement.

---

Thanks, Tiga, for posting the rest of the songs. I'd checked the Xbox site earlier this morning but they hadn't been added yet. It's a great choice of songs. Would have been nice to have had something from Gish as well. Hopefully there'll be another song pack in the future.

Still working on F. Tried playing You Really Got Me today and there is something that the game hasn't explained yet and I can't find it anywhere. After playing a chord it has just the blue frame after it with no notes or open strings, no clue what to do but it tells me I've missed it.

It means you play the same chord again.

The Trooper :datass:

I don't even like Iron Maiden, but that's such a good riff.

Think they picked the wrong Arctic Monkeys and System of a Down songs, though. Hopefully it means we'll be getting some of their good tracks as DLC in the near future.

Bit of a let down, bass volume comes through really low and Session Mode doesn't seem to follow me at all, the drums barely click and the guitar does idle noises. :?

Played it for the first time earlier and it's great fun to play. The notes were moving a bit too quickly for me by the end so it was hard to keep up.

I also played Satch Boogie as well. I'll never master that one!

I haven't stuck to one song yet, decided to go through all the songs to find the easy ones.

That being said I am loving this, a week on and I'm enjoying it more and more each time. Feeling like I've progressed too even if it is just a tiny bit away from totally shite. Trying to stick to an hour a day on this but I keep finding myself playing till my fingers can't take it anymore ( which isn't much longer than an hour  ). When my fingers do give in I actually get pissed off that I can't continue. I have all these great games to play with even more to come and all I want do is play this, never would have thought that would happen.
