Got this yesterday and I'm really not sure what to make of it, it's a brilliant piece of software that's a bit tetchy at times.

I can see it being great for people that are picking up the guitar for the first time, it'll hold your hand through the basics and allow you to build and improve at your own pace. Starting with a clean slate, it'll keep it interesting and challenging enough to give some the motivation they can't get from discs or books.

However, if you've been playing for a while I can see this being a bit frustrating. It can quickly veer from baby's first steps to pernickety, so getting a handle on what level you're at (I taught myself how to play and was hoping to improve my solos and learn some classics) and having the game match it is the biggest hurdle. I found the menus to be a bit clunky and the Riff Repeater to be a bit cumbersome. Great idea but I still find it quicker/easier to pull some tabs off the net and work my way through them than piss about with a bunch of slow-moving sliders!

I found some of the tunings a tad unnecessary. I'd imagine it'd be confusing and time consuming for new players (watch those cheap strings don't burst!) when the focus should really just be chord structures. Don't Look Back In Anger is one example, it's not a big deal but having to retune often is a bit of a speed bump. Track selection isn't great, truth be told - not many particular great "guitar" songs.

For anyone considering buying, I'd point out that the lag issue isn't to be ignored. My Xbox is set up with HDMI but I'm going to have to find a workaround because the delay is tangible.

The other thing is locked content - I'm glad all of the songs are available from the start but am I right in thinking some of the effects and tones need to unlocked?

Anyway, I'll give it a month or so and see if I've got my head around everything. Session mode is a lot of fun, I could get lost in that.

There are some bonus unlockable songs but the main songs and effects/tones are all available from the start.

The audio lag has been considerably improved since the original. At least with the PC version. Haven't played it on a console so I can't compare. It's still not recommended to use HDMI for audio. The RS website has a setup guide for the console versions.

http://rocksmith.ubi.com/rocksmith/en-G ... index.aspx

Not everyone is going to have a separate sound system to play audio through. It's not good for those whose only option is HDMI only.

Song list for the Iron Maiden pack:

"Fear of the Dark"
"Run to the Hills"
"Aces High"
"The Number of the Beast"
"2 Minutes to Midnight"

Not sure if I'd get the whole pack but I'll definitely get 2 Minutes to Midnight.

Run to the Hills should be fun! I might get that and disarm when I find the bloody cable for my guitars

So this just arrived from Amazon. All I've got to play with at the moment is an acoustic, so notes beyond the 12th fret will be a little hard to play. Will be getting an electric next month though. With that in mind what are some good songs to start with?

Edit: And it strawberry floating crashes every time. gooseberry fool.
Edit 2: Yay, it works! For now...

Played Stuck on a Wire out on a Fence and at one point I had to play a note on the twentieth fret on the B string, but my guitar only goes up to the 19th fret. :fp:
But I fretted the string where I needed to and I'm pretty sure the note, while muted, registered. Don't think I'll be playing that one much just yet.

Playing it with an acoustic (nylon string with a piezo pick-up) is not all that great though. Tuning is a real hassle, took me about 15 minutes to get through that (and the guitar was correctly tuned from the start). Certain lessons don't work properly and neither do some of the arcade games.
I see on the tuner that it doesn't display the played note for very long, so I guess the piezo just doesn't deliver a loud enough signal or something. Maybe if I move it closer to the bridge?
It's perfectly fine when playing a song though.
Also the lower strings buzz a lot.

I hate my guitar now.

But it's a lot of fun.

DLC for this week is from Alice in Chains. And it's another 5-song pack.

Alice in Chains “Man in The Box”
Alice in Chains “Would?”
Alice in Chains “Hollow”
Alice in Chains “Them Bones”
Alice in Chains “Check My Brain”

I'm not so familiar with Check My Brain but the rest are a pretty good selection.

Sure is lively in here.

Put about 10 hours into this so far.
Borrowed my brother's electric guitar for this and it's so much better now. The tuner works properly now as well as the Guitarcade games, though I haven't played much of them yet. Slowly getting better at a few select songs, mostly on Love That's Gone.

Still having issues with mine, Session Mode hardly works because it thinks I'm not playing loud enough or some nonsense. Is the drum supposed to kick in, at the moment I have to start the session which is really weird.

What pickup are you using and what is the volume set to? As far as I know the game prefers the bridge pickup. There's a calibration option which might help with your guitar volume.

When you start Session Mode the backing band only starts playing when you do. The drums don't count in to start playing.

Strange. Despite all the problems I had with my acoustic, it worked fine in Session Mode.
Have you tried calibrating your guitar/bass again?

Nutshell would've been perfect for this game. Absolutely perfect.

One week of playing so far, and 32 hours in total according to Steam. I'm probably not focusing enough on any one song, but the songs I am playing I am consistently getting better at. Feels good.

Most played songs.

Not entirely certain what the percentage thing means. I though it was just the level of difficulty across the whole song, but Blitzkrieg Bop is fully leveled yet it only has 89%.

I'm also jumping between between songs. I played through all of the on-disc and bonus songs (what I've unlocked so far, at least) once to see what they were like and then focussed on the ones I liked.

I think the percentage relates to your mastery of a song. Was the song fully levelled when you got 89%. You probably have to play the song when all phrases are mastered to be able to get 100%.

Green Day is this week's DLC and it's only three songs.

"Basket Case"
"American Idiot"
"Oh Love"

Can't have a good week every week.

That guy is just a little bit too forgiving. Top notch performance my ass.

But I'm still very happy with my progress so far on this song. Biggest problem for me on this song is the E flat chord.

That was pretty good. What did you use to record the video?
