The manual for the PC version of San Andreas is the greatest manual I have ever owned.

Even in strategy games like Settlers? That's kind of irritating.

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

I do love how people hypothesise that the console market will be download only and physical-media free by next generation, when it's taken us thirty years to finally get rid of manuals.

They can probably stick games in those thinner cases now, which are to be fair quite cool. :shifty:

It'd either work as a technique for people to more easily spot Ubisoft games in a shop, or they'd wait for all the companies to follow suit and then do it. If at all.

I can't say I'm that bothered, the last time I looked in a manual for something which wasn't explained in the in-game tutorial was this gen, but still quite a while ago. I'll miss reading through them once finished with the game, to find out more about the characters and that, but I suppose they could always stick that info in the actual game, in the menus.

The origami model for Heavy Rain was totally separate from the manual, which itself was more of the same black and white uninteresting crap. [/pedantic]

As manuals have been usurped by in-game tutorials, can they be converted into "making of" booklets instead? Concept art, original story pitches, cut levels or whatever? I'd be happy for trees to be chopped down for such a purpose.

Isn't that what they love to charge an extra tenner for?

Did the two versions have different manuals? I've only seen the limited edition's manual, and that certainly wasn't "more of the same black and white uninteresting crap".

If theyre so bothered about paper, they should tattoo the instructions on badger skin and tuck some of that into every game case.

I've got the bog standard version and the manual is black, white and dull all over, what's the limited edition one like?

Never read manuals although I do smell them. So this will be a great shame.

Just smell your computer monitor instead. Job done.

I never read the manuals anyone usually. I guess they assume most people go online for tips and info for the games.

On the whole, I don't really care about this. Some games do require manuals, but a lot of them don't these days.

The Donkey Kong Country manuals were pretty great, if I remember correctly though.
