What are the good laws that the Tories are going to pass now they have a full majority?

Over the last few days we've heard about scrapping the Disabled Workers Fund, repealing the Fox Hunting Ban, scrapping the Human Rights Act and bringing back the Snoopers' Charter. (Any I've missed?)

Seeing as a few of you voted them in, presumably you know of some laws they're going to pass that are actually of benefit to us?

If you live in a housing association in a low paid job, you can aspire to not be able to afford your mortgage instead of your rent.

Extending right to buy is an incredibly good measure they're bringing in.

It's a fantastic policy that was long overdue.

why? explain it please.

1. these houses will just end up in the hands of to-let landlords, therefore making it more expensive to rent.
2. are they going to force private landlords to sell if the tenant can afford it?

nonsensical rubbish.

Actually I meant to put Help to Buy, though bringing back Right to buy is a good one too.

Help to buy because it's a condition of the policy that you can only use it if you're purchasing what will be your only property. It can't be used with a buy to let mortgage at all. It allows first time buyers to get on the ladder with a minimal deposit. The Help to Buy loan is interest free for 5 years, then 1% after that, or you can just re-mortgage to include the loan later on.

With the right to buy they're proposing to bring back, the houses can only be sold when they have another property ready to replace it, ensuring that there's no reduction in the availability of social housing from the tenant buying.

No. And given that it would be a terrible thing to do, it's a good thing they're not.

Yeah, Help To Buy seems like a pretty sweet deal. My financial advisor said it would lead to an unsustainable house price bubble, but I've not really done any further research on that. It's a "friendly" policy at least.

The Conservatives have pledged to increase from 15 to 30 hours a week the amount of free childcare for three and four-year-olds with parents working at least eight hours a week. The move would be worth £5,000 a year when introduced in 2017.

My youngest starts school in 2017, I wish they'd speed through this like they are the Fox Hunting thing. This would save me £5k a year.

thanks for answering a question that i didn't propose.

if right to buy is extended to housing associations how are they going to distinguish between those and private landlords with multiple properties?

TTIP is another good one we can expect to finally be passed, after many attempts at getting it through under other names in the past

It's fun filtering everything you say through the knowledge that you're looking forward to inheriting your parents' burgeoning rental property portfolio.

So, where is the replacement social housing needed by other people going to come from once people have right to bought the rest out of the market?

My lad is now five so we only had the 15 hours free. Luckily for us both our mums had retired so we didn't pay for childcare however I've seen so many friends have to pay out thousands a year in childcare, this really is a good policy. It gets the lazy mums back to work earlier as well, can't use the child excuse :shifty:

Yep, it's £10k a year now for our nursery place. When we had two kids in there at the same time it was an absolute nightmare.

We did qualify for some tax credits, but it was still about £16k we were paying out. You can absolutely see why people don't work when they have kids.

It's going to lead to a massive reduction in consumer protection in the UK. Lower warranties and less regulation on how food is prepared. The only real upside is we're be able to import stuff cheaper from the states, although a lot of companies already try and stop this happening by refusing to allow oversea shipping. Of course it will lower business costs a fair bit as importing and exporting for them will be a lot cheaper.

Also private companies will be allowed to sue the government if they do anything that affects their profits.
