It won't be Tumblr or Reddit right?

There's some great articles on there

Porn and nudity is theoretically on the majority of social media platforms (message boards, Tumblr, Reddit, Twitter, Snapchat just to name a few) which makes that aspect of this whole thing completely stupid.

The thought of having to give your details to a dodgy porn company to access Reddit for example is just preposterous.

With just 2 months to go until it goes Live, they haven't even thought this through or finalised things properly anyway.

You should give some more examples.

A full exhaustive list maybe.

You can access PornHub. You just have to give a private company your name, date of birth, address, a copy of your ID to prove your age and agree to let them keep a record of all porn you view.

Alternatively wait for the inevitable web scraper software or other loophole that bypasses AgeID.

Yeah this totally isn't a "sure no problem gov *rubs hands*" solution to receiving millions of personally identifiable browsing histories for marketing purposes. All they have to do is update a privacy policy nobody reads and you start getting porno fliers on your doorstep. It says it right there at least in this report that third party browsing data may be collected. That's a very valuable data business you have there. What's more valuable than a product? All the information you need to effectively market any product, ever at a captive audience - legally guaranteed by state sponsored surveillance.

But seeing as the vast majority of porn is cloned 1000s of times across severs in other states worldwide such as Russia all you need do is browse some other geography, or, well, just use VPN which is free now anyway. Which makes it possible the government might consider outlawing VPNs to "protect children".

Well done generating another exploitative profit industry rather than achieving the end result for the greater good. Like every single strawberry floating other thing conservative governments have privatised.

Do they seriously think nobody will Google "sites like Pornhub? How strawberry floating thick do ministers really think people are?

I don't think there's too much to worry about on the VPNs being made illegal front.
Far too many businesses use VPNs for the Tories to ever get that through. It's not just for employees working remotely but sometimes the internet connection for an entire office will be through a VPN in places where a secure business connection just isn't possible.

Any medium sized or larger business simply couldn't function without VPNs

You're right, businesses would rally against that for "corporate security" and "trade secret" purposes, which is much more important that civil liberties. Hooray!

Outlawing VPNs would be a horrible, HORRIBLE step for a government to take.

In this case though corporate security/trade secrets and civil liberties would actually be coinciding.

If you ban VPNs though what's next? Ban HTTPS connections? I'd love to see how online banking would work.
Then again Corbyn might love that since it'd send us back to the 70s and having to go to a branch to do anything.

They would solve that with a VPN license, a company or person can apply for a license to use vpns.

And one that the Conservatives have been pushing for a long time now, along with outlawing encryption.

They could just create a government registry of allowed VPN's, so companies could set one up easily but it'd be much harder for private citizens. It'll be interesting to see how this continues as I don't see it stopping any time soon.

If anything could cause a proper old fashioned bloody revolution in this country, then cutting off the porn would be it.

Who’s with me comrades? Let’s storm Downing Street and demand a return to the grot that we’ve become accustomed to!

I'm not sure an ISP can identify who's VPN you're using though, just the fact that you're using one.

We’re the first country to try something like this but we most definitely won’t be the last if it’s even slightly successful. Nothing is stopping these porn streamers (many websites owned by the few) implementing it as standard without government backing, which I think they will within 10 years.

But at the same time, technology isn’t static. Something new will come along that disrupts what we know today.

Wonder how they might try to implement it on something like Babestation type channels that broadcast on services like Freeview.
