I don't know why none of you like him, he is always pretty funny. How many interviewers could just laugh off the amount of abuse that guy gets?

Whilst I would vote to stay in the EU, I find it disturbing that a referendum is constantly avoided and kicked into the long grass. I suspect the establishment know that a vote to leave would win out, and thus don't want the headache.

Now that may be them looking out for our best interests, but it is a corruption of democracy to deny the will of the people in such a way.

Cos he lied about soldiers and he almost certainly had a hand in hacking people's phones.

Indeed. Miliband's latest move on this is a pathetic fudge. It's amusing how the Labour party are supposed to be all about social mobility and equality of opportunity, but in reality they don't even trust the proles enough to vote on such an important issue.

He has, quite bafflingly really, given the Tories and open goal. It is a completely inept message Labour have put out and aguably they seem more divided on Europe than any party at the moment!

Couple of depressing stories today:

UCAS sells of student's data: http://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2014 ... f-comments

Google gives UK security services special access to YouTube: http://www.irishtimes.com/business/sect ... -1.1722722

:dread: :fp:

So sick of all this bullshit.

You would be wrong, you were alive when John Smith was in charge of the Party, then Nu Labour took over when he died. That said it's still debatable whether he would have won a General election.

john Smith was a great man who was greatly admired on both sides of the political spectrum. I think it would be strange to suggest that he couldn't have won the 97 election on the back of 18 years of tory rule.

I think he would have won, but we will never know so it will forever be up for debate.

I do wonder how different things would have been if he was alive now.

Iraq war wouldn't have happened, the banks would have been regulated further and the Scottish independence referendum wouldn't be taking place. (probably)

But, would we have achieved peace in Northern Ireland, increased spending in Education exponentially and have kept the tories out for 14 years? Who knows.

How are you defining peace in Northern Ireland? A good friend of mine lives in Belfast and going by some of the stories she tells peace seems like a bit of a stretch.

Pre-Good Friday Agreement days. Northern Ireland is at peace, but hatred and small fringe groups still exist obviously. I was just in Northern Ireland last Christmas, it isn't perfect, probably never will be, but it's certainly got a lot better. A fragile peace, especially with Robinson incharge, but a peace nonetheless.

He had already started the move towards abolishing Clause 4 long before Blair actually did it.
