With pysical you always had the bonus of being able to sell it later, so effectively the game would have only cost you around £10-£15 to play if you sold it within a couple of months of launch. But with Microsoft completely ripping up the rule book & giving all their exclusives away for £7.99 a month, that doesn't even wash as a reason now either.

Occasionally you will get some nice incentives to buy physical (such as Rise of the Tomb Raider on PS4 being a disc within an art book) but 8 times out of 10 there is literally nothing in the box apart from the disc and a white warranty sheet.

 . I never thought I'd cut back on gaming but a combination of money and publisher shenanigans means that I'm kinda happy to be down that mine now, dude!

It started off as a very shitty version of game but it's actually morphed into the shop game should be. Interesting tat for sale and lots of games, all cheap and easily displayed.

It'll be sad if they go, as the high street will soon only have CEX to buy second hand games.

My local HMV recently moved to a smaller store and have got rid of games completely. Lots of other stores now only have a tiny section selling FIFA and Xbox credit.

Still they find room for a wall of funkos. Which is odd, as I always thought Mario Kart would sell better than a £15 deformed plastic toy of a tertiary character from last year's box office bomb Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets

Wish my image sig would work

Never been to one of these - as others have said it's coverage was limited to certain parts of the country, but it's still disappointing to hear of another gaming retailer going south.

I don't think we've had anything other than a GAME round our way for a long time now, and I couldn't tell you the last time I went in there - online has basically taken over all of my needs for buying games.

I've never seen any of their stores, must be a more northern chain.

The only dedicated game shops around here are Game and the occasional Planet Games.

GG is actually my closest game shop, it'll be a damn shame to see it go. It was actually pretty decent pricewise most of the time- a couple of pounds over the odds compared to Amazon, but worth it to pick up a game the same day.

The independent game shop I used to frequent has since closed down, likely for similar financial reasons. If GG goes too, my only options will be HMV or Game in the Trafford Centre, both of which are obscenely overpriced.

Looks like it'll be online only for me.

Our local HMV ditched games a couple of months back. Wasn't aware it wasn't a company wide business decision.

There's a trade nation in Liverpool, which I bought a couple of things from. Hope it doesn't close down

Rather than going to Game or HMV, i normally get my new releases from Argos, their prices tend to be lower, plus it's the only shop here in town where i can get them.

My choices are Game, local indie, Sainsburys, Argos, HMV

HMV's stock is frighteningly small now though, so it's almost never worth checking

Even when HMV did stock games their prices made Game look reasonable most of the time.

The last game I bought from HMV was a second copy of Star Wars Battlefront II, as the local indie had bumped the price up from when I bought my first copy and Game were literally out of stock. The person who served me spoke about Fortnite though so it was not the worst experience

There's not one near me but seeing another retailer close to collapse is said, 2018 hasn't been great for retailers with Toy R Us and Maplin going, and others like Mothercare and New Look struggling. It's truly a scary time for the high street.

Rex Kramer wrote:
UK high street chain Grainger Games has had it’s supplier credit limits cut and are currently “working tirelessly with our advisers to explore all options and are in dialogue with a number of interested parties regarding the future of the business.”

The company is informing those who have pre-ordered games, including Far Cry 5, that they will not be getting the title. Grainger Games reported losses of £1.3 million last year and investors are said to be worried following the collapse of Toys R Us and Maplins. Grainger have said that these failures have meant that “confidence in UK high street retail has been at an all-time low.”

We have had a tip-off that the company has already stopped trading certain hardware and are preparing to close stores, possibly as early as Monday, although we must stress we have not confirmed these details.

Grainger have 67 stores across the country and employ around 400 staff.

Hope nobody around here is affected.

I don’t think there are any Grainger Games near me, I have never seen one.

It’s a shame to lose another gaming store, especially when Game seem to keep surviving. Unfortunately for people that work in that sector, the future is heading the way of digital sales and I can’t see anything stopping it.

Game have said themselves that they will eventually be moving away from physical sales as they begin the process of merging with Sport Soccer as predominantly an 'e-sport' concession. So while Game may be surving it's only a matter of time before Game's current identity is a thing of the past.
