I think Game will go before CeX does. They're pushing into the retro gaming market really heavily lately too so suspect that's going to give them a little boost since that's always relatively profitable.

CEX is always really busy when I walk past or go in. The one in Yeovil seems to do a booming 2nd hand electronics trade.

Game in Yeovil looks like a dead man walking in comparison. I have no further evidence/inofo than this anecdote but would be shocked if CEX went before Game.

Yeah I noticed today a jump in their retro stock.

At least GAME have the decency to just sell discs in plain boxes if they haven't got the case. I did just have a quick look at the inserts for some of my cex purchases to check though.

Don't forget that CEX is a franchise.

I just got a copy of Conker's Bad Fur Day for the N64 from the CEX in Cheltenham, and it was the cheapest I've seen it sell for in a long time, undercutting ebay by about £150 at worst. As long as that chain keeps throwing things like that my way, I'd be okay with seeing them around the high streets.

Alternatively they do have some expensive stuff too. I've noticed their Saturn games cost a fortune, and an unboxed copy of Super Mario 64 for the N64 was £20, which seems more expensive than the eBay going price.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (Switch) is £50 in CeX (strawberry floating shocking) for a 2nd hand copy that's probably been licked etc. £41 brand new from Shopto and you can be the first to lick it!

That's my hometown. :toot:

The one thing I don't like about CEX is that everything is so grubby in there. They don't clean up any hardware they put out. The Dreamcast they have, for example, is in a ghastly state.

Just saw a copy of that in the French equivalent of CEX for €260. Good find!

Thing is Mario Kart might be £50 second hand in CEX but you see certain people take in stacks and stacks of dvd's , cd's and old games just to get up to £50 worth of credit to buy it and then CEX sells all of that stuff bit by bit and probably makes £100 on it so ultimately they win but the guy who manages to get the game he wants for a pile of what he views as crud he no longer needs is cool with it as well as he doesn't have £41 to get it new so has to settle for this.

Yes, this is the upside to everything in CEX appearing over priced. Although I guess the other downside is that they don't give a proportional over value to trade ins in the first place.

I've noticed pretty blatant home printed sleeves for games in CEX before, it's dumb

It's also a violation of copyright.

The whole shop is a professional fencing operation so I'm not really surprised

CEX are in a pretty good position financially and have the advantage over Grainger of not having all of their eggs in one basket in terms of product lines. The mobile/tablet/DVD/blu-ray/music side of things occupies more space in my local CEX than the games/consoles do, and the place always has people in it. Even if/when the gaming side of things decreases (due to downloads) they'll have other revenue streams.

Well if you tried that on eBay you'd basically be selling knock-off goods and liable yourself.

My Mario Kart 8 sleeve is 100% printed off a dodgy bubblejet. It's awful, and I didn't realise until I got home :(
