Any chance it'll quietly get amended or repealed once the HoC realizes that its 900TB porn collection is now illegal?

MPs are exempt.

Which is the most ridiculous part. They care about their own privacy and nobody elses.

Honestly there's two ways we as a people beat this. Someone either hacks and releases information about MPs families and somehow links it back to said MP; or everyone in the country who cares about privacy start using TOR and VPNs. That will effectively make the law useless as even though there's probably some high priority watch list they can't watch everyone. It's simply not feasible.

Luckily I downloaded the entire internet's history of porn just before the bill passed so I'm all set to wear my penis down to a bloody stump.

It hasn't passed the house of Lords so there is still time to download loads of filthy stuff.

They'll know you have though since they can access all your history now.

Is it actually illegal to possess? I thought it was still legal to bring it in from Europe.

Certain kinds of you-would-assume-legal porn are actually illegal to possess. If you're into hard BDSM or rape fantasies then you could be found guilty of a crime for watching it, even if it's really obvious that it's a consensual production & no-one is being hurt.

Need confirmation on this. Because I'm not sure they are exempt.

I would hit the strawberry floating roof if this is the case.

IIRC they are exempt in principle. In reality the data will be there, it's just the police promise not to view it. I'm not 100% on that but it's what I've been hearing.

EDIT: Sorry, I assumed that comment was about the Snooper's Charter. I don't think they're exempt from potential porn bans or whatever.

MPs probably have their own VPN to use to keep their records hidden.

I wouldn't be surprised. They're mostly wankers who like to foist rules and laws on the rest of us while remaining exempt.

Like the Civil Servant pay freeze. No pay rises for Civil Servants, oh except for MPs, they deserve a bump in pay. Utter banana splits.

Moral do-gooders with the loudest voices have always acted this way. 'Sex outside of wedlock is a sin' in public, prozzers and cocaine in private. I hate these people with a passion. They're nearly always both devoutly religious and conservative. ARGH I'm getting angry just thinking about them.

I'm not sure about this bill, but there is a law coming in that says everyone's internet history will be saved for a year and can be accessed by lots of random departments such as the Foods Standards Agency, and Gambling Commission. MPs passed this and then afterwards amended the bill to exclude themselves.

I implore all hackers to focus all of their efforts on exposing the internet activities of MPs that voted in favour of this bill.

Has anyone thought about this outside of "oh gooseberry fool now I'll have to watch vanilla porn!"?

Just look at what Google can do from what people voluntarily type in to their google search box. They know your likes, dislikes, buying habits, everything

If the government has access to that, but not just for the users of google, but the entire country... they could predict/steer election results by targeting certain aspects of the general consensus

Yes, the potential is horrifying and I can't help but think this is a watershed moment.
I haven't stopped worrying about this gooseberry fool all week and I've decided to look into leaving the UK. I'll let my British passport expire in six months time and apply for an Italian passport (dual nationality). Luckily my employer has plenty of opportunities abroad.

I would love some Mr. Robot levels of hacking to go on. Expose MPs browsing habits. Cause a gooseberry fool storm.
