That's terrible Xeno, I'm so sorry. :( At least you got to see him though?

I really need to see my dad more often...

There's nothing I can say that hasn't already been said mate, but I'm very sorry to hear that.

It's strange, but when I saw the thread title, I had a horrible feeling someone had died. :(

You are taking it incredibly calmly.

I hope you don't take this in the wrong way, but if he was as troubled as you say he was, it might be some awful, never-should-have-happened release for everyone involved.

I'd despise to see my family in his condition/situation.

My thoughts and love are with you.

Lay him to rest proudly.

We are glad that he is no longer doing it to himself as he wasn't happy here. He has been to hospital on a number of occasions two of which were for malnutrition (he called an ambulance once and the second he collapsed in the street while getting more booze) but this time he just gave up, he had starved himself for so long that he looked like the picture of people in concentration camps at the end of WW2, my 10 year old niece weighed more than my dad yesterday. It wasn't good but is apparently typical for a alchy.

Being an alcoholic is a bit of a family trait it would seem, as well as my dad my uncle and cousin all died in similar circumstances, not one lived over 65 which is why I'm teetotal.

As for being calm, that may be down to it not hitting me yet.

You can hopefully take some solace in the fact that despite your dad's drinking you were with him till the end, and he didn't die completely alone or anything like that, which is the end facing a lot of alcoholics. I say this because I have an alcoholic uncle and I'm honestly not sure if he's alive or dead, so whilst it's obviously still devastating, at least you know he was with people who loved him until the end of his life.

Christ, my condolences dude.

GRcade weathers it's first major event well though; nary a pun in sight.

Thank strawberry float.
