Do love a Blu Ray but not bought one in a while. Everywhere always really varies on quality even when it claims to be 1080p. I also dislike paying for a download since you dont own gooseberry fool.

Looking forward to this, 4k is mind blowing.

How long have electronics companies been making home media centres? 40 years?

Why does every single one still look like complete and utter strawberry floating gooseberry fool?

Probably so it fits in with the rest of your equipment. If someone takes a radically different design approach it may look good in isolation, but put it with your other equipment and the whole lot will look odd. That's my theory anyway.

That is not a pretty piece of kit...I mean if you were to show me that I'd be like 'why are you showing me a DVD player from 2003'. That is less "Ooooooooh" and more "Oh."

At least Sony attempted to do something a little different with some of their Blu Ray players.

If the price mentioned in that article is correct then this format is already finished. You can get 4K streaming boxes for under £100 and these chuckleheads want the guts of £2000 for 4K blu-ray? Pointless.

It's all a waste of money isn't it. I have a dvd player and an old samsung 26inch lcd. I think it is 1080p or whatever they call it. Why do we need constant upgrades when what we have works fine. I suppose there will always be people who want the newest technology. I just have no idea why. I'm still waiting on the Xbox One to drop to an affordable price...£250 with a game is what I call reasonable.

Worth bearing in mind that Samsung's first player, BDP-1000, was $1000 in 2006. Players aren't due out in America until next year, but they shouldn't cost much more than Blu-ray players did.

Remember that this is the Japanese price and that Panasonic won't have any competition this year.

I actually quite like my current Panasonic Bluray player, it's about half the size of my previous Sony one and has a nifty proximity sensor which opens/closes the disc drive when you swipe your hand across it.

I kind of agree with this. When we had SDTVs with DVD players, did we think "I wish the resolution was higher?". I certainly never thought this. When HDTVs came out the picture looked poor and the solution was to upgrade to an HD source. Now Ultra HD TVs are with us it is probably the same - have an Ultra HD TV but only have an HD source? Better upgrade....

I'm waiting for the next gen consoles to be announced which will hopefully have a 4k blue ray drive.

I've wanted physical media to be the same resolution as film since I started buying DVDs. Also, I can't wait for affordable OLEDs, I despise the black levels on LCD TVs.

I'm happy with HD teles but I do need a new one; mine is all foggy around the borders and generally a bit murky. I notice it most when I go round friends' houses and see how sharp their pictures are.

We're getting a new tv at the end of the year to replace my beloved 40" 1080p Samsung  Tv is absolutely fine and still going strong, but we've got a big front room and we want something more of the 70" size :datass:

I think 4K will be a must at that size so will be on my requirements list.

That and nutflix.

That'll be that fantastic edge-lit technology that was supposed to solve black level issues for LCDs.

I'll be upgrading when I can get a 4K OLED for under £1000.
