I just felt I had to write this post. I recently bought a PS3 and had the sense to buy this game :)
I have to say , I haven`t had this much fun playing a game in a long long time..Just to soothe my fears about what the ps3 is capable of, the water effects in "The Drowned City" level I am on are a joy to see!
I cant wait for Uncharted 2...
I seem to know the name of the Developers, "Naughty Dog"..but cant think, what else have they done?
This game really is a joy to play..I love it..
Still havent really got into LBP yet...and still have Killzone 2 to get into..so far, so good with my PS3...One consequence is , I have been neglecting my 360 for a while...

Forums can be tricky, what with the new topic and post reply buttons being so close.

The Currently Playing thread is brilliant for this kind of thing unless there's something in particular you want to talk about.

There's an Uncharted 2 thread knocking around that has discussion on the whole series. There's a marmite turn of events coming up for you, so don't consider it a done deal just yet. It's an amazing title, though. One of the best games this gen.

Naughty Dog are the gods who made Crash Bandicoot 1, 2, 3, Crash Team Racing, Jak & Daxter, Jak II, 3 and X.

The genuinely classic game there being Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy. Best platfomer of the PS2 generation.

Ok, you did not just dismiss the best karting game since Super Mario Kart on the SNES as not being 'genuinely classic'.

You're right, he didn't mention Mario Kart 64 at all.

The Crash Bandicoot games are the most genuinely classic of those IMO. They are still some of the best platform games ever made.

The entire Crash Bandicoot series contains some of the least enjoyable games I have ever played, and the character himself was an awful. That mask guy was ace though.

Crash Bandicoot 1, 2, and 3 were ace, and I played them all again recently on the PS3 they are just as playable now. The first one has a poor save system but it just makes it more challenging.

I don't know, all the Crash love of recent years, smacks of revisionist history to me.

At the time of release they were generally thought to be decent games, but somewhat limited and aimed squarely at a pretty young audience.

The recent claim that they are somehow more than this is pretty baffling.

As I recall, at the time of release Crash 1 was seen as pretty damn good, but it was quickly blown out of the water by Mario 64 (we didn't get Mario 64 until 1997), which prompted a very quick reassessment of Crash's merits.

I agree about Uncharted.

I picked it up a couple of weeks ago, and it's been very good fun so far.

Not sure about that, everywhere else got Mario first, it wasn't like we didn't know what it was when Crash was released.

I didn't say that it wasn't 'pretty damn good', just that we knew it had been surpassed already and was in effect a pretty limited game that appealed to a rather young audience.

It certainly wasn't considered a 'classic' in any shape or form, it was graphically pleasing and something for PS1 owners to shout about from that perspective, but ultimately like I said, limited.

Perhaps the Crash Bandicoot games passed you by, but for me and many of my friends they were some of the best games of the time. Me and my best mate were both hyped for the sequels after loving the first game and we both independently achieved 100% in all three games.
At the time they were up there with FFVII, MGS, Resident Evil, and the Tomb Raiders as games that everyone talked about.

They sold very well too:

I didn't say they passed me by or that they didn't sell.

And just because the Playstation crowd at the time loved the games, doesn't make them classics.

Crash was a bit like the Killzone of the PS1 era...about as good too.

Crash - a bit of fun, with some pretty effects. Not sure I thought of it as a classic though, even at the time. We may not have actually had SM64 (memory fails), but I'm sure by then that we'd all seen it. In any case, in light of that superior game, retrospect ensures the Crash games being nothing more than a footnote...
