Well, I would have thought the vast majority of people wouldn't actually find it remotely funny. :| I despair that so many on here think child abuse is a laughing matter. Says a lot about how desensitised a lot of us are, I reckon.

No one is actually laughing at child abuse. Just the absurdity (word?) of the advert. I'm sure there are better ways of conveying their message than do make a tune of slapping a child across the head.

It's not supposed to be a tune, it's showing you a life of misery lived the same way each and every day, a vicous cycle.

It's not to make a tune, it's to emphasise the repetition. I'm at a loss as to why anyone can find it amusing.

I think speeding up toward the end of the advert was a mistake.

You're a sick strawberry float if you laugh at that. :|

It would have been funny if she the chain had gone "school" then "slap"

"I don't know what it says"
"You worthless little cow" *slap*

Alas, it didn't. Saw this on the TV last night and didn't laugh at all. In fact I'll probably switch channel next time it is on.

Exactly. Come on Hero, I even mentioned in my post that it's the advert not the subject matter that's funny. No-one on here finds child abuse funny. The advert fails to do the subject matter justice however as, even from this relatively tiny catchment group, many people find the rhythm and repetition amusing rather than harrowing. If they'd tested the ad fully with control groups surely they'd have found the same thing?

I think that says more about the people on here than anything else. I'm sure they would have tested it and 99% of normal people wouldn't have found it amusing.

I think most people here have just failed the Voight-Kampff test. Welcome to the future. :(

Well, if you think so little of us, so be it. I, however, like to think there's more than one side to every story.

I don't think the advert works at all. Everyone I've watched it with cracks up during the fast cuts at the end. I think the order has something to do with it too, it makes it pretty unsympathetic starting with the mugging.

Yes, Perhaps it's not clear :| but I do not find child abuse funny.

Just that unexpected slap with the ptcsh sound was rather amusing I thought.

Those who find child abuse funny and those that don't, you mean?

To be honest, I'm offended by the implication from Sir Hero of Canton, way up there on his mighty Throne of Morales, that I and others in this thread find child abuse funny, ignoring every one of us stating "it's not the subject matter, it's the advert."

Well, you are the one laughing at a child abuse advert.

(I'm just yanking your chain. I'm a bit surprised that anyone finds it amusing, but hey, if you've got a sick sense of humour then so be it.)

Did the previous sentence not give you a clue as to the tone of the post? I'm joking, fella. It's hardly a revelation that you find repetition amusing anyway, given the amount of time you've spent in The Capital Wasteland.

I can see why it could set ppl off. The whole thing at the end with the slap being repeated so quickly it become a gag rather than something more serius.
