Up to Episode/Chapter 4, loving it so far. Can't believe it works as a horror (as in like a movie, not a survival horror game) a few of the jump scares got me. Looks amazing too, up there as the best looking game so far even though it does suffer framerate wise due to looking so damn good.

EDGE have a great 'Making Of...' on Until Dawn this month. I'd have preferred the feature to have been twice as long and more detailed, but it's great to read about how a game like this gets made - and against the odds wins critical acclaim (mainly).

Yep, I even bought a steel book disk edition. I've played the game all the way through just once because I want to go back to it later this year for a second time. I forgot the disk has all those 'making of' featurettes! I do recommend the piece in EDGE, anyway, as it's nice to see the game get some coverage this far out from release.

Was it the trophy for when Mike cuts his fingers off when he gets them trapped in the bear trap? The trophy for that came quite late well after it happened. Just lost Emily and her fella, after his death quickly guessed where I might of gone wrong I gave him the flare gun which he fired right away alerting whatever's in the woods to the radio tower and after trying to save Emily from falling down the mine I had nothing to defend myself as I was dragged away and had my chin impaled on a hook.. :dread:

Anyone got a good guide that shows all the totem and clue locations. Preferably not a YouTube one.

Finished it yesterday. Brilliant game, though I did spoil game looking at a wiki page but enjoyed it all the same.

My survivors were Sam, Chris, Mike, Jessica, Ashley and that bitch Emily. Matt got caught in the mines and had his face impaled on a spike and Josh ate some man flesh and turned in to a wendigo. Need to see where I went wrong with Matt and I'm guessing you can't stop Josh from turning?

RE: The last bit - Yeah, that's basically the good ending for Josh :dread:

The Matt bit all depends on how you get away from the radio tower.

Hmmm so I'm guessing you don't give Matt the flare gun and try saving Emily once then jump to safety rather than try saving her a second time.

Boom.

I think they expected he'd die there in most people's playthroughs, as there's very little for him to do after that.

From just 2 pages ago in this thread....

KingK wrote:I found around 80% of them 1st playthrough without a guide then used a guide off Google (psn trophies I think edit: this link for trophies and this one for collectibles for the rest. Some of them rely upon you doing (or not doing) something earlier. It's possible to get all collectibles on 1st playthrough if you go for the "save everyone" approach but I think that'd be tough to do without a guide

Personally after I finished the game on the 1st run through I used Episode select and started at ep10 to collect what I was missing, then did ep9 then ep8 then ep5-7 as a continuous run then ep4 then ep2-3. Note you don't need to complete whole episodes for the collectibles but you must complete the episode in order for decision trophies to pop

From other thread:

Seven wrote:Well, I'm pretty bad with that. :slol:

I do typically go for 'safe' choices though.

Yeah that didn't last long. :fp:

Here's what happened so far:

Jessica was first one to die. I went for safe routes but strawberry floated up two QTE bits and I was too slow to save Jessica...

...then Matt was next one to die; was gutted but I wasn't sure what I've done wrong in this. He has nothing to defend himself with. Used Flare gun as quickly as he grabbed it from Emily and before he climbed up he put down his axe >_>

Chris, I completely strawberry floated up. I moved the strawberry floating "lol don't move" bullshit QTE-y and I managed to ward off monster attacks but failed on last one... and he was my favourite ;-;

So now it's Mike, Ashley, Emily and Sam who are still alive right now. Knowing my luck they'll probably all die ._.

On Chapter 9 at the moment, as seen above I really suck at it but I love it.

Just finished my first playthrough.

Chris, I completely strawberry floated up. I moved the strawberry floating "lol don't move" bullshit QTE-y and I managed to ward off monster attacks but failed on last one... and he was my favourite ;-;

Wolfy died because I assume I need to lock the door before getting into hole...

Finally, Mike died because Sam ran to switch thinking he'll run as soon as he notices Sam running to it. Guess that explains first LOSS totem I got...

So Sam, Ashley and Emily are my remaining survivors.

Butterfly effects on my first playthrough:

Any of your business
- Respected Chris' Privacy
- Chris was happy to see Sam
- Chris continued to trust Sam

Rats with bushy tails
- Chris chose not to shoot the squirrel
- Nature remained in balance
- Sam, unharmed, hid successfully (why is this one under this butterfly effect?)

The Soul of Discretion
- Ashley encouraged Matt to use the telescope (at first I wasn't sure, but then I let him)
- Matt saw Mike and Emily flirting
- Matt confronted Mike

Whose side are you on
- Matt sided with Jessica during the fight with Emily [oops]
- Emily was aggressive with Matt

Be her hero
- Mike came to Jessica's aid reluctantly
- Jessica didn't appreciate Mike's reluctance to help
- ...But he subsequently impressed
- Jessica resisted Mike's advances

Something for later
- Sam found a baseball bat and left it in the cellar
- Sam had the option to use the bat when being chased
- Sam hit the psycho to escape

To the Rescue
- Mike stumbled when chasing after Jessica
- Mike was too late; Jessica was dead

...And which will die
- Chris said that he would save Ashley
- Ashley was grateful and felt indebted to Chris
- Josh felt betrayed and antagonised Chris
- Chris considered violence

At What Price
- Mike hacked off his own fingers
- Mike still had a useable machete (it did snap off once, but I decided to go above after trying to open the trap is bad idea)
- Sam rescued Mike from the Sanatorium

Man's Best Friend
- Mike didn't kick the wolf
- Mike made a friend ( )
- The wolf guided Mike around the Sanatorium
- Mike failed to protect his new friend ( )

On the same page
- Matt supported Emily's plan to go to the tower and get help
- Matt fired the flare to signal for help ( )
- Matt had no defense against the attack (no gooseberry fool)

Run or Hide
- Sam made all the right choices during the chase
- Chris and Ashley found a dummy in Sam's clothes
- Sam explored the psycho's workshop

In Self-Defense
- Matt walked calmly through the herd
- Matt and Emily escaped the threat unscathed

Who gets the gun
- Emily gave the flare gun to Matt
- Emily has no defense against the attack and was bitten
- Mike faced a dilemma

Save Yourself
- Matt tried to save Emily
- Matt fell into the mine and was attacked
- ... and was killed

Forewarned is forearmed
- Ashley took the scissors
- Ashley stabbed the psycho
- The psycho gave Ashley a black eye
- Chris hit Josh

Stick Together
- Ashley followed Chris
- Ashley failed to see who was in the workshop

Point Blank
- Chris didn't shoot Ashley
- Ashley was concerned about Chris as he left

Once bitten
- Emily was bitten
- Mike spared Emily
- Ashley was faced with a dilemma and told the truth
- Emily pushed past Ashley, putting her at risk

Left Behind
I never managed to actually get anything that triggers this butterfly effect :s

Important Discovery
- Sam failed to discover a vital record
- Josh recognised Hannah too late and was killed

The Result of Chaos
- Sam escaped
- Mike died in the lodge (OOPS)
- Ashley escaped
- Emily escaped
- Chris died before making it back to the lodge ( :( )

All in all really, really good game.

I didn't mean to

I didn't blocked the door and just jumped into hole assuming Wolfy would jump in with him, but he didn't :<

Guess that was the trigger.

But it is:

possible to defend yourself from the attack, just how my Matt did before that bit is SO stupid.

He puts down his axe before he climbed up the radio tower & as soon as Emily gave him flare gun he uses it instantly (without giving me choice to do so)
:fp:

edit: reading the perfectionst guide as I want to keep everyone alive before I plan to do grim playthroughs, and yeah you're right. If you tried to save her second time then it seems Matt will die.

EDIT2: To clarify what I said above...

There are ways that Matt can survive that but it depends what your choices were.

If you disagree with Emily about the radio tower, then Matt will not fire the flare gun at all (if you give it to Matt while playing as Emily, that is). So when the tower falls down, you can then try to save Emily twice, and still be able to survive the encounter thanks to flare gun. However I've read the time window is pretty small so if you miss or run out of time Matt will die.

If you agree with Emily however, Matt will use the flare gun straight away and thus will be unable to defend himself so it's better to save Emily once (or just forget about saving her) then jump if you want Matt to stay alive. Same goes if Emily keeps the flare gun for herself.

Anyway just done my perfect run. Even though I knew what to do and had guide on hand I still was on edge most of it

I was really surprised to see Larry Fessenden's name in the opening credits as a writer and his cameo was a nice surprise too. It feels, for anyone who is a hardcore horror fan, like a labour of love. They really did their homework, or were very huge fans themselves. It was lovely to see the nod to the much loved but little seen Let's Scare Jessica To Death. I found the whole experience a joy, and can understand completely why the game won over so many fans and critics.

I hope they're working on a full fledged sequel and not just that VR roller-coaster game. I hope Quantic Dream played this too, and are able to inject the fun back into their games.

Enjoy! It's a great game. Just play it how you want without a guide. It's easy to mop up collectibles via chapter select (see my post earlier on this page)
