So what's your genius plan? There's a massive caravan of thousands of people headed towards your border, you're just going to let them all in because they come from a poorer country?

Sorry for the late reply but here's a quick suggestion.

The US is not the first and won't be the last country to find itself at the end of a surge of refugees and there are ways to go about handling them as has been shown in multiple other instances in many other countries with astonishingly small resources compared to the US who we're constantly told is the richest nation on earth.

They could keep them all in a purpose built camp for a limited time while the courts (both local and international) decide what to do with them and this could be monitored by observers so nobody can object to the conditions.

Lastly they could maybe try not being banana splits about this but maybe that going a bit far as Trump enjoys being a total banana split so yeah, I'm not holding my breath here.

How's that for a start?

The problem is these people aren't refugees, they are economic migrants. Yes I know they come from countries with very high rates of violence, but those countries have been like that for a good number of decades now, there is no reason that all of a sudden they should qualify as refugees.

Next, when you talk about a camp, what you really mean is a prison, since these people are in the country illegally and would need to be confined until they can be processed, which might take years given that there are so many, and rolling out the welcome mat would undoubtedly attract many more.

Putting thousands of people in a massive prison, even if you have the best intentions, good funding, and proper management would still not be a pleasent experience. When even one of these is missing the results are total disasters, look at the terrible conditions of Australia's refugee camps, or Camp Moria on Lesbos.

If these people wanted to come in to the US, or whatever other country, there are legal methods to go about it, just jumping a fence and claiming well it's nicer here then it was over there is not a legitimate excuse.

You sound just like the European hard right who talk about Syrian refugees being "economic" migrants and who want to measure the teeth of children to make sure they are not adults pretending to be kids.

Peter's original point was that cutting aid to impoverished countries will only make them poorer and make it more likely that people will try and get into the US. Do you doubt that?

They're not really economic migrants. There's a lot of crime in South America and a lot of people have fled because of threats from local gangs. Also a lot of these problems have been caused by us interference into those countries De-stabilising the governments of those governments.

Explosive Device Found in Mailbox at George Soros’s Westchester County Home

An explosive device was found on Monday in a mailbox at the Westchester County home of George Soros, the billionaire philanthropist who is a favorite target of right-wing groups, the authorities said.

A law enforcement official confirmed that the device was found near Mr. Soros’s home. It did not explode on its own, and bomb squad technicians “proactively detonated” it, the official said.

What's the betting Fox news will claim it was put there by Soros himself in an attempt to discredit the right?

That is a very salient point. Part of the reason for the economic and social distress in countries like Honduras, Panama and Nicaragua comes from American sponsored regime change and interference in the region over the past fifty or so years. Is it not the responsibility of the United States to give relief to them now as a result, be it accepting migrants or providing aid?

I'm re-listening (via audible) to the Third Reich trilogy of books by Richard J Evans and Trumps most recent speech about the caravan is almost exactly the same as the propaganda Hitler and Goebbels used to spout out. Worrying stuff.

What a strawberry floating joke. I hope the next Democratic president doesn't shy away from sending these strawberry floats to Gitmo.

So they don't give a gooseberry fool about the actual truth just what they think they can convince their supporters is the truth.

Historians are going to bury Trump's legacy and if he doesn't go down as the worst President ever something has gone horribly wrong.
