I honestly don't know how anyone who knows anything about Trump can say he's been doing a good job.
The people that support him would be strawberry floating furious if a Democrat did exactly what he's done in the last year or so. The story about Trump using a phone that he likes as opposed to one given to him by the White House is exactly what they were furious about Hillary doing for years and years.

Trump keeps showing up on my twitter feed for the past few days talking about Obama and Hillary. I presumed he was past all that. :fp:

He will never be past it. His supporters love all this, and will never question it.

Trump knows Hillary/Obama get applause from his supporters - he's a delusional narcissist, but he knows how to get the adoration he wants. (He's also horrendously insecure and knows which is why he's obessed with beating Hilary in the popualr vote, and completely fairly with no underhanded outside influence).

Obama - he's hated for years. See above for triggering his supporters. A US press outlet also used an Obama-era picture to talk about a Trump-era problem (100s of missing kids in ICE) which Trump/Trumpettes have leaped on to decry FAKENEWS

What's even more alarming is seeing his supporters going on TV and defending him for behaviour they would lose their gooseberry fool over if anyone else did it.
If Obama had wrote that tweet they would be going completely insane but that's just the depths politics has sunk to in the US now.

I was in the US a couple of weeks ago with family and, predictably, the issue of Trump came up. Initially it was about guns and all of that, on that subject my cousins husband owns a gun but he doesnt want to, he feels that since everyone else out there has one he needs one as well, he has no training and he would never use it but there would be a nagging "what if you had a gun" should anything happen. I can kind of understand that viewpoint, he would get rid of the gun in the morning if they were outlawed but if the "bad guys" have them I want one too.

He was less understandable when asked directly if Trump was a good president: "he doesnt speak very well and comes across poorly but the economy is good and everyones retirement funds are doing well so its hard to say". Its "hard to say" if Trump is a good president or not, hes a bigoted racist but theres more money floating around so its a tie really? I didnt ask who he voted for as I didnt want to lose all respect for him but it was very strange for someone to be so aware of Trumps shortcomings and how he is seen by the outside world and still try to find a silver lining to his presidency.

I get the feeling most Americans couldn't give a gooseberry fool about the rest of the world and think we all live in awe of the mighty USA.
A lot of them have this odd idea that they somehow pay for everything any other country has as how could we possibly afford things like new London Buses without help from the bank of America.

They're raised on a diet of "greatest country in the world" rhetoric, and general ignorance of the outside world, compounded by a media that rarely ventures outside the US in any meaningful sense - unless it's to cover some war or disaster.

Whenever CBS News does international reporting, for example, 99% of it is delivered from a London newsroom, citing foreign sources, and when its morning show does its world news segment, 99% of it is just American news.

Living in the US, you do develop a healthy respect for the BBC.

Depending on where you are and what news you consume, ignorance and disdain for the world at large can be almost as bad as North Korea.

They take this view on healthcare in particular, I find, justifying their sky high healthcare costs by claiming that they pay more so the UK et al don't have to. They act like the US is a lab for experimental treatments other countries benefit from, and that they is also why healthcare, drugs etc cost way more there.
