Cockwhomping cuntpuffin. My new favourite insult.

Meanwhile, today was the Super Tuesday of this year, with primaries and special elections in multiple states.

twitter.com/MaddowBlog/status/1004187495146442752

 'Mon that blue wave!

Lots more going on too:

https://fivethirtyeight.com/live-blog/j ... s-results/

The big one to watch is California, where the primary system could lock out one or other party entirely:

Jungle primaries can be confusing even to locals, so let’s start with a refresher. In California, all candidates regardless of party run on the same ballot in the June primary. The top two vote-getters (again, regardless of party) advance to a head-to-head election in November. When this system went into effect in 2012, moderates were supposed to benefit because candidates would have to appeal to the whole electorate rather than just their partisan base. But three elections later, Californians disagree on whether it has succeeded.

What it has done is occasionally let two candidates of the same party slip through to the general election, which critics say deprives voters of a true choice in November.2 Let’s say you have a district that’s perfectly split — 50-50 — between Democratic and Republican voters, but 10 Democratic candidates run for the seat compared with only two Republicans. The two Republicans might get 25 percent of the vote apiece, while the Democrats each receive 5 percent. That would advance the two Republicans to the general election, locking up that district for the GOP.

That’s exactly what Democrats fear will happen in California’s 39th, 48th and 49th congressional districts — and perhaps in the 10th and 50th districts as well. Those districts’ swing status attracted a large number of credible challengers in what has been a great recruiting year for Democrats, but that high Democratic enthusiasm could backfire as a result of the jungle primary.

Apparently Canada is going to make weed legal. I'm guessing my brother will probably move back there.

Interviewing her would be tantamount to poking Trump square in the eye. I doubt Mueller will go after her unless he has no other options.

BBC News wrote:The Mesa Police Department in Arizona voluntarily released surveillance video footage showing a group of officers brutally beating an unarmed man.

The video shows several police officers kneeing and punching Robert Johnson.

Not particularly shocking by US standards, but another case of unjustifiable use of force (with one officer repeatedly punching him in the head).

Man, if only the national anthem were playing, they could claim to be protesting unjust police brutality.

Utterly contemptible behaviour from the police. That one officer absolutely hammers him at one point.

And why the strawberry float are there about 7 police officers there to handle a single unarmed man?

America is strawberry floated.

I just watched a CNN piece where a police chief says that they beat him because he didn't follow an order to sit down but he did say the force was maybe a little excessive :fp: .

So, in the US if the police tell you to do something you have to do it or risk being completely fucked-up and amazingly there are people who will back that policy.
The level of violence that's just accepted in US society is just staggering.

This is why it’s so difficult for us in this country to understand. Whilst we have many things in common culturally we are still very different to the Americans.

Buzzfeed wrote:Justin Trudeau Was Accused Of "Groping" A Reporter At A Music Festival In 2000

The incident allegedly took place when Trudeau was 28. The prime minister's press secretary told BuzzFeed News he doesn't recall "any negative interactions."

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, a self-described feminist who has made combatting sexual harassment and sexual assault a centerpiece of his political image, was accused of groping a young woman reporter at a music festival almost two decades ago.

The allegation was first published in an editorial in the Creston Valley Advance, a community newspaper in British Columbia, in August 2000. It has periodically resurfaced online, including in Frank magazine earlier this year. The allegation came to wider attention this week when photos of the editorial were widely shared on social media and received further prominence when Breitbart reported on it on Thursday.

In a statement to BuzzFeed News, the prime minister's press secretary, Matt Pascuzzo, said Trudeau has always treated women with respect and that he "doesn't think he had any negative interactions" while in Creston.

BuzzFeed News obtained a copy of the newspaper editorial from the archives of the Creston Museum.

In the editorial, Trudeau was accused of "groping" the newspaper's reporter during a music festival sponsored by a beer company.

According to the editorial, Trudeau was said to have apologized for inappropriately "handling" the woman after he realized she was a reporter.

“I’m sorry. If I had known you were reporting for a national paper, I never would have been so forward,” the Advance editorial quotes Trudeau as telling the reporter afterward.

Trudeau was 28 years old at the time of the alleged incident. Although he was not then a public figure, he was still famous as the son of former prime minister Pierre Trudeau.

"[S]houldn't the son of a former prime minister be aware of the rights and wrongs that go along with public socializing? Didn't he learn, through his vast experiences in public life, that groping a strange young woman isn't in the handbook of proper etiquette, regardless of who she is, what her business is or where they are?" the editorial said.

BuzzFeed News contacted the woman reporter who covered Trudeau's visit to the festival but did not immediately receive a reply. Efforts to contact the paper's then-editor were not successful.

Trudeau's first major moment in the public spotlight as an adult came just a few months later in October 2000, when he delivered a eulogy at his father's televised state funeral. He subsequently followed his father into politics, becoming active with the Liberal Party of Canada and eventually running for and winning a seat in parliament in 2008.

Since becoming prime minister in 2015, Trudeau has championed women's rights and taken a zero-tolerance stance on sexual misconduct, suspending multiple members of his party from caucus after they were accused of sexual harassment.

In an interview with CBC News earlier this year, Trudeau was asked whether any women might accuse him of similar behavior.

"I don't think so," Trudeau said. "I've been very, very careful all my life to be thoughtful and to be respectful of people's space and people's headspace as well."

He also said politicians were responsible for their actions, no matter how long ago.

"There is no context in which someone doesn't have responsibility for things they've done in the past," he told CBC News.

In the statement to BuzzFeed News on Thursday, Pascuzzo emphasized Trudeau's record on women's rights:

As the PM has said before, he has always been very careful to treat everyone with respect. His first experiences with activism were on the issue of sexual assault at McGill, and he knows the importance of being thoughtful and respectful. He remembers being in Creston for the Avalanche Foundation, but doesn’t think he had any negative interactions there.

This bit is a slightly odd position to take. The fact that he is a son of a former prime minister and therefore has "vast experiences in public life" shouldn't really factor into it - everyone regardless of status, position, or background should know that groping is wrong!

Special counsel Robert Mueller filed new witness tampering criminal charges against ex-Trump campaign chief Paul Manafort as well as Russian citizen Konstantin Kilimnik as a defendant.

The superseding indictment lodged by a grand jury sitting in federal court in Washington, DC, came days after Mueller asked the judge in Manafort's case to revoke his $10 million bail and jail him because of an alleged effort to tamper with witnesses.

Manafort, 69, and the 48-year-old Moscow resident Kilimnik were both hit with new charges accusing them of obstructing justice and conspiracy to obstruct justice by using intimidation or force against a witness, and also with tampering with a witness, victim or informant.

The superseding indictment filed by Mueller maintains five other prior criminal charges against Manafort pending in DC federal court, which relate to lobbying work he did on behalf of a pro-Russian political party in Ukraine. Those charges include conspiracy against the United States, conspiracy to launder money, acting as an unregistered agent of a foreign principal, and false statements.

Manafort is set to go on trial next month in Virginia federal court on related charges. His trial in DC federal court is set for September.

First pic looks like Macron is squeezing so hard that Trump's hair is about to roll up in a cartoon-like fashion.
