Well yeah its anti-semetic in it's origin but you're probably right that she doesn't realize this. It does, however, show where she gets her news from.

Absolutely. It shows just how dangerous the Breitbart/Infowars/Fox News/Daily Mail stuff is, they are actively promoting anti-semitic conspiracy theories while also avoiding the obvious comeback of “racist” from decent minded people.

They have been undermining the anti-racist message for some time and are succeeding quite well. How many times do you see people saying “everything’s racist nowadays!” or “the word racist is so overused that it is now meaningless!”? Breitbart types are just clever enough to know that people don’t like racism and so they just spread it by saying “Soros” meaning Jew, or “Muslim” meaning Asian person. We have had at least 20 years now of people in the UK saying “We need an honest debate on immigration, but we are not allowed to talk about it are we?”, when we have done little else but discuss it. It’s been massively successful in turning people away from immigration, people now see it as a bad thing, hence it being one of the big reasons for Brexit. Arseholes.

That rant isn’t aimed at you btw Photek, I went to reply to you and then just kept typing!

I know man, I'm not one for facebook, I rarely if ever post on it not least because the wife doesn't want me to aggrevate her Trump supporting brother and sister but after hearing that audio today and holding back tears I went all in on the trump is a banana split memes. I'll get agro later but I can't sit back and not say anything. I also posted a link to Germany's crime figures which are the lowest since 1992 just as an aside to inform those who think other wise.

Her friends are generally anti Trump so they don't get annoyed. The wife is embarrassed to be related to them but doesn't want to lose contact with her neices and nephews etc. Also being from a big democratic state like Minnesota she falls back on the fact that her state has nothing to do with the Republicans or Trump as a whole. It grates a little when people post in here how America is f**ed up and a sh*thole, they are as close minded as republicans without even realizing it.

She's obviously been paid for by Soros to spread false rumours about him that are obviously stupid so he can get away with even worse stuff undetected.

I don't think people here really mean the US is a shithole just that it's far from the shining pinnacle of humanity that many Americans think it is.
You see these Americans claiming the US is the best country in the world but I honestly wonder how they would react if asked "What makes the US the best country in the world and what do you have that a country like Germany or France doesn't?" and see that other countries have the same things and in many cases better.
Europeans are just as passionate about patriotism they just have more access to knowledge about other parts of Europe and know we all excel in certain parts so the concept of best country in Europe doesn't really make much sense.

It also doesn't really help that Americans seem to be willing to spend almost unlimited money on the armed forces at the expense of things they can actually use like public transport or healthcare and they see having the largest armed forces as being a reason to say they are the best which is just confusing unless being at war constantly somehow makes it the best.

My missus is a very proud Minnesotan and I'd say a proud American after that. She does have that lack of empathy that Americans have but she seems to be getting a little better in that regard. In the recent abortion referendum she registered to vote and was militant in her hatred for the No vote people who came to our door (she told them to strawberry float off - literally) and when they lied on TV here.

She comments all the time on how we give too many hand outs to poor people and dislikes free housing as a thing saying in America they'd get nothing but I argue that's not a good thing but she has that age old belief that everyone is 'screwing the system' and Ireland is falling for it. She gets really annoyed when I inform her that education and infant mortality amongst hundreds of things are far better in Ireland but it just ends up in an argument, again, she see's the benefit, slowly she's realising that parts of America are pretty terrible but it's hard to get into politics with someone who's hard wired to believe in the American Dream and all the bullsh*t that goes with it.

The American dream idea is just plain odd.
Do Americans honestly think people in the rest of the world don't have the same dream to make themselves better and have the opportunity to do so?

I also struggle to understand when Americans argue against things like maternity pay or workers rights (Right to Work states are laughable as all that means is unions are pretty much banned and you can be fired from a job you've had for 30 years just because the boss decides he doesn't like you) and claim anyone arguing for those things is a communist who obviously just wants to see capitalism crumble.
It's like these people don't realise they're arguing to make things worse for themselves while making the top 0.1% massively richer.

Her family and friends are stunned we both get nearly 30 days a year paid leave!
It's just unheard of in the states.

Several times when out drinking in Minneapolis I'd have several people asking me about Ireland's economy in awe at the cheap college, health care, state pension and unemployment benefits etc.

It's part of the reason so few take foreign holidays as they just don't have enough holiday time and it seems like they berate themselves for the little time they do have.

They have this odd idea that asking for reasonable holiday time or being able to actually care for kids by being at home (I remember a rather famous example where an American footballer was blasted for taking 3 days off to see the birth of his child https://www.today.com/parents/mets-play ... 2D79480866 ) is somehow unamerican. It's really odd to see them shout about how they love family and marriage but as soon as it involves actually spending time away from work they couldn't give a gooseberry fool.

I always like this quote from Friedrich Hayek:

"There is no reason why, in a society which has reached the general level of wealth ours has, the first kind of security should not be guaranteed to all without endangering general freedom; that is: some minimum of food, shelter and clothing, sufficient to preserve health. Nor is there any reason why the state should not help to organise a comprehensive system of social insurance in providing for those common hazards of life against which few can make adequate provision."

The American attitude to work is actually counter-productive. People just don’t do decent work if they are working ridiculously long hours or not getting time off work.

I’d far rather somebody worked hard for 5 hours a day than worked sloppily for 10 hours a day.

Yep, if the American attitude was correct France would have zero companies employing people as they would all instantly collapse because people only work 35 hours a week, have 30 days holiday and have decent maternity/paternity. For some unknown reason there are plenty of American companies who manage to survive and make a profit in France despite the crushing social policies.

Sounds like a pride thing (which you already alluded to). It's certainly a difficult barrier for some to get past, especially Americans.

The belief that "everyone is screwing the system" is insane and perhaps demonstrates a lack of trust.

CNN has really cranked up their UK coverage recently. The Instagram page in particular has become a little obsessed, even covering Ascot today. I’m sure they’ll cover it again later with photos of Meghan.

Some of it couldn’t be any more immaterial to the US (like the Chelsea flower show) and there it is anyway.

My mate moved over to the US and married a yank...his first job had 6 leave days per year and he could only use them at certain times.
