Dubyas (remember the quaint old days of thinking he was an inept president?) approval rating went up when he went to war so its not an impossible scenario. If Iran can be painted as a threat then the public will support military action and Trump would see a bump in approval.

Any time something is going wrong for him, he or his team do something random like this. Melania's coat, bringing up the kneeling fiasco again, threatening people through Twitter. It's calculated, but it is unsustainable.

lex-man wrote:He won't actually go to war. This is basically his business tactic turned to international politics. Basically threaten to destroy your opponent in the hope they'll back down, but if they hold their ground try and cut a deal. It's the same move he made with Trump university and North Korea. He'll be over there in six months telling them how great the county is.

That’s true (although Alvin is also right), but it’s not always about what he does. His rhetoric might just be bluster but could easily set off a reaction.

It’s like a gobby drunk bloke in a pub, 99% of the time people will ignore him or move away. But eventually somebody will punch him.

The only give away that it's not real is the correct use of "you're"

Just like with a Trump tweet, it’s impossible to work out if American conservatives are real or parodies. This one is real.

But then Ocasio-Cortez spoke, followed by Bush, and I saw something truly terrifying. I saw just how easy it would be, were I less involved and less certain of our nation’s founding and its history, to fall for the populist lines they were shouting from that stage.

•I saw how easy it would be, as a parent, to accept the idea that my children deserve healthcare and education.

•I saw how easy it would be, as someone who has struggled to make ends meet, to accept the idea that a “living wage” was a human right.

•Above all, I saw how easy it would be to accept the notion that it was the government’s job to make sure that those things were provided.

I watched as both Ocasio-Cortez and Bush deftly chopped America up into demographics, pointed out how those demographics had been victimized under the current system, and then promised to be the voice for those demographics. The movement, Ocasio-Cortez shouted, “knows no zip code. It knows no state. It knows no race. It knows no gender. It knows no documented status.”

Bush, after saying her piece, noted that she had been careful to allow speakers from across all demographics to make it clear that she was not running to represent just one particular group, but all.

I left the rally with a photo — in part to remind myself of that time I crashed a rally headlined by a socialist, but also in part to remind myself that there, but for the grace of God, go I.

Bullets and bills: The cost of getting shot in America

Megan Hobson still cannot walk properly since being caught in a crossfire of bullets in Florida six years ago. But for her and many other shooting victims, the price of survival is not just months of rehabilitation and operations.
It is tens of thousands of dollars in medical bills with no end in sight.

Stuff

That sounds like a person who could be open to persuasion, if you approached them in the right way.

Not sure if want. :? He could have too much baggage, from his years as AG during the Obama era, but I'd like to hear him out before I decide either way.

The most transparent I think he’s ever been, which is saying something. Laying the groundwork here for if the Democrats do very well at the upcoming elections (or the next presidential election) and the Russian interference for Trump doesn’t work.

That's the political equivalent of going in to work on a Thursday morning with a fake cough before throwing a sickie on a Friday.

It'll be fun to watch him when the Democrats hold the balance of power.

As correct as you are, it would serve Russia and China very well to back the Democrats and interfere on their behalf, if only because a) it gives Putin a western bogeyman to "fight," which always bolsters his approvals, and b) it'd herald two years of political paralysis in America, an inward looking time of hearings and investigations which would grant Russia and China invaluable breathing room to pursue their own agendas, at home and abroad, that the US might otherwise look to keep in check.

Russia backed Bennie Sanders as well as Trump, they were just trying to stir the gooseberry fool. Although Trump is especially good for them.
