We have a similar problem in the UK where Labour policies polled really well in isolation, but Corbyn was demonised as a communist or whatever. I think here the right wing press have cultivated this belief that socialist policies are inherently unaffordable (which is nonsense).

Gerald Ford was generally considered an OK Republican politician, Nixon pardon notwithstanding, right?

There must be one or two pre-Nixon/Reagan GOP congressmen who were more in the mold of Eisenhower than the authoritarian right that came afterwards.

Gerald Ford was mainly ineffectual, the Nixon pardon destroyed all his authority. What's the argument against Lincoln?

I've read Fox News polling is actually a decent standard, surprisingly.

Interesting. I would question why they wouldn't slant their polling, considering they put a slant on everything else.

Part of the reason may be reselling. When I'm doing strategy I'll sometimes purchase more detailed research than is openly published. If I need the data Fox have but don't trust it I won't purchase it - this will be the same for those in huge organisations so they'd potentially lose out on serious funds if it wasn't reliable.

I was only thinking of post war Presidents so Lincoln didn't come into my thinking. The Republicans used to be the good guys (well as good as the 19th century allowed) so it's only since the parties switched that we can say the GOP are the evil ones.

Lincoln was no saint. Abolishing slavery and defeating the CSA goes a long bloody way though!

If you just paint over a layer in Photoshop you can get that effect. I don't know why you just wouldn't start again or just change the texts that already there.

What's interesting is the majority of Americans (Republicans as well) support many of the policies that AOC/Sanders want to implement.

But as soon as the word "socialist" is mentioned or the names of AOC/Sanders is shown, the support evaporates.

Which shows the power of brainwashing, people will actively vote against policies they support, just because they've been terrified into rejecting any form of socialism.

The fact that so many voted against Biden because they think he is radical left is astounding. Biden!! If you found the centre and put a dot in the middle, he'd still be more centre than that.

It is pretty amazing how they think having European style holiday entitlement or sick pay will somehow instantly cause companies to flee the country and turn the USA into Venezuela. If you mention that somehow companies exist in France that have very generous sick pay, holiday entitlement and maternity leave they then go on about how those companies surely aren't making a decent profit like the French are supposed to care more about company profits than having jobs that don't make them feel suicidal with work pressure.

Americans aren't very well travelled and extremely insular. They are also indoctrinated from a young age to believe that 'MURICA IS THE GREATEST GODDAMN COUNTRY IN THE WORLD. They don't realise that there are many countries with a higher quality of life than them unless you're super rich.

That's the point though. The majority do like the idea of holiday entitlement, healthcare and sick pay.

It's only when they hear the word "socialism" that they gooseberry fool their pants.
