Yep no profit motive there whatsoever.

He's the public face of the entire gun lobby, his beliefs are money and whatever makes him and the arms industry more of it. Usually that means scaremongering about Democrats.

So it turns out there were actually FOUR deputies at the school who just sat outside the school during the shooting without going in to try to stop the shooter. :fp:

https://www.cnn.com/2018/02/23/politics ... index.html

(CNN)When Coral Springs police officers arrived at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, on February 14 in the midst of the school shooting crisis, many officers were surprised to find not only that Broward County Sheriff's Deputy Scot Peterson, the armed school resource officer, had not entered the building, but that three other Broward County Sheriff's deputies were also outside the school and had not entered, Coral Springs sources tell CNN. The deputies had their pistols drawn and were behind their vehicles, the sources said, and not one of them had gone into the school.
With direction from the Broward deputies who were outside, Coral Springs police soon entered the building where the shooter was. New Broward County Sheriff's deputies arrived on the scene, and two of those deputies and an officer from Sunrise, Florida, joined the Coral Springs police as they went into the building.

Some Coral Springs police were stunned and upset that the four original Broward County Sheriff's deputies who were first on the scene did not appear to join them as they entered the school, Coral Springs sources tell CNN. It's unclear whether the shooter was still in the building when they arrived.

Absolutely pathetic, I'd love to see them, or anyone else try to justify this. This will just lead to more people arming themselves to the teeth as they see their police as a bunch of cowards. :fp:

So the conclusion to all this is that having people with guns on site makes absolutely no difference as they aren't going to face off against a lunatic with an automatic rifle. More guns then yeah?

To be honest, I feel like it's just moving people away from what the real argument is, the guy having the firearm in the first place. You can say that the police or FBI have dropped the ball, and yeah, the response could have been a lot better. It still doesn't do anything about the root cause of the incident. Have they proposed anything coherent to prevent or impede something like this happening again?

Absolutely. Is the solution to have highly trained special ops people in every public place just so people have easy access to guns?

I read somewhere that NYPD officers have like an 18% hit rate in shootouts.

That’s highly trained police officers who deal with this sort of thing often and have weekly firearm training.

Imagine how low that drops if you arm a teacher who has never been in a violent situation and has 1 day a year training.

The potential for catastrophic collateral damage from stray shots is massive.

Well it appears to be happening...

Florida's Republican-controlled appropriations committee has approved a $67 million "school marshal" program to give 10 teachers per school 132 hours of training to carry guns, and give teachers who choose to carry a firearm a $500 bonus.

Ooooh, $500. Whoop-de-fucking-do.

So it won't be long before a child steels a gun from the teacher and shoots a load of people.

They'll then be calling for all children to be armed.

There's no excuse for this, the guy was in there shooting people and these guys just hid behind their cars. At the very least they should have fanned out to try and make sure he couldn't escape instead of all just staying in one place.
