cool, cool

Yeah, after the whole Reddit trying to find the Boston Bomber and instead blaming a guy who went missing a few days before, putting his family through hell, I think we should probably refrain from jumping to conclusions and just wait for some actual facts.

He's been officially named as the gunman. It's not speculation.

I think it's probably due to the fact that these things are now so common, a lot of folk have become desensitised to it.

It’s partially that and partially that they don’t ever do anything about it. Their government is basically paid for by the NRA and nothing will change.

It’s a terrible thing to be so desensitised and blasé about something like this, but it will happen again and again until they actually take steps to fix their problems.

I don't believe gun controls are the solution anymore. They need to completely repeal the second amendment. I actually think politicians and celebrities should just start openly campaigning for it and making the case. At the very least it may drag some republicans towards gun controls as a middle ground.

Compare how the UK responded to Dunblane with how the US responds to their bi-monthly School shooting. UK cracked down on handguns, US sends much needed thoughts and prayers. Which one was more effective??

Exactly.

I have seen a lot of pro-gun Americans this morning saying “so what laws would have stopped this?” and the usual “it’s a people problem not a gun problem”.

The utter blindness of it is astonishing.

Of course banning guns doesn’t stop gun crimes, but it makes it a lot bloody harder for people to get hold of weapons and ammunition and commit these sorts of atrocities.

Stop selling guns to lonely dudes with mental health problems might be a good start.

Surely the first, easy step should be a reduction in the types of guns available? Has anyone ever given a reasonable response as to why you should be able to buy an AR-15 over the counter?

Does anyone else feel that America is at risk of sliding into some form of civil war? The country seems utterly divided on many things and weapons are everywhere.

I wouldn't go that far, America has it's problems yes, but a lot of the country is still pretty peaceful.

I'm sure you're right, it just seems to me that, as guns are endemic in American society it's almost an 'accident' waiting to happen. To be honest I can see these kind of shootings happening more and more often I'm afraid.

Nope. There's a tendency over here to brush the USA as being the same but Minnesotan has as much in common with a Texan as I do with an italian. The weapon spread and types of weapon are vastly different from state to state not to mention the differing laws pertaining to gun laws in each state. There could be a few tensions in the south but not enough to cause a war of any kind.

I agree, we tend to think of America as being a country when really it's a continent. I'm just wondering how bad things could get, seeing as meaningful gun control seems like an eternal no-no.

It’s hard to say if gun controls would make a massive difference, if your a crazy nutter and your really want a gun you will be able to get one anywhere in the world, also with the amount of guns that will be about in America doing something now would be like locking the stable after the horse has bolted, I agree somthing needs to change but I have no idea how and sadly doubt it ever will

Has the "now is not the time to politicize/talk about gun laws" sentence been used by Sarah Sanders or a republican yet?

Well by far the most gun deaths are by handguns I believe, which is why I don't see the point in banning AR-15s, only a full ban of all guns would be an effective solution.

Banning AR-15s will only cut off one tool for committing these mass murders, anyone hell bent on doing it would just use another gun.

Dont get me wrong, I don't see a need to own an AR-15 either but banning it wouldn't really solve anything.
