Errkal posting that he had a super hero name (Errkal is the way he spells Superman) made me wonder about the origins of everybody else’s name.

Where does your name come from and why?

Mine actually has nothing to do with cats. I used to post on a Tolkien forum under the name “Gothmog Lord of Balrogs” (it would have just been Gothmog, but some prick had gotten there before me :x ) and people started calling me Moggy. When I signed up to Xbox Live etc I kept the nickname and it has been my online name ever since.

Nothing exciting or imaginative. I'm a June baby, so Gemini is my star sign and 1973 was the year in which I was born.

Not that I believe in any of that star sign nonsense.

Mine actually was made up years ago
I was starting a game called Puzzle Pirates and wanted a name that sound piratey and sort of funny so I came with Errkal. Since then it has always been available when I sing up for someone that needs a gamer tag name and so it has stuck.

I needed to choose a realistic-sounding human name to help me fit in.

There used to be a presenter on 103.2 Power FM (now Capital I think) called Maximum Bob... Minimum Effort. I was listening to Power FM when I originally signed up in... err... 2004?

I couldn't think of a good username. I was originall called just my name. Then I changed it to Prince Harry, which was gooseberry fool. I don't like this one either but at least its a simple enough online alias. The reason? I have/or had curly hair. It's more wavy these days as I've gotten older. Used to be a big afro as a teen.

It used to be Kamizoroe, which is a weapon from Soulcalibur 2. Then I started slowly deleting letters over the years because I wanted to look like less of a weeab. Now I'm out of letters.

People at school would call me False as a corruption of my surname, I assume to wind me up. Never bothered me. When it came to get an xbox live handle all my friends had 'woo' names, so I just chose Falseywoo. Stuck. Ive shortened it over time where available.

Before that and still now in places I go by semi random collections of letters and number that dont spell anything, allows me more freedom and anonymity.

Used to be Raxicori, its from the name of a planet in Doctor Who, Ive never seen a single episode of Doctor Who but it was mentioned on an ad around the time I got sick of having to think up a new name for everything I signed up for. Its misspelled but I didnt know that at the time and it doent matter really as its always a unique name wherever I have used it. On here I have shortened it to Rax. Thought about changing it constanly but Ive never been able to come up with anything better.

When I was at uni, I was president of the running club, and also played football and rugby. Not to boast - I wasn't good at the latter two, but I was a good sprinter so tended to get picked for team sports as well.

Anyway, I turned up late to a rugby training session one evening because I'd been out with the running people. I had fairly new white trainers on, and clean clothes on which I didn't want to get dirty. I wasn't really going to train, just to say hi to people. But people saw me standing at the side of the pitch and the nickname 'Poser' was born. Stuck with me throughout uni.

I never really used it generally, but joined GR in its Gamesradar guise back in 2002, when I was looking for advice on fixing a PS2 disc read error. I stuck 'poser', never believing I'd be here for that long. For some reason, I then stuck with it when choosing my PSN name. And, as well all know, once you've picked a PSN name you might as well have it tattooed across your strawberry floating forehead for how easy it is to change.

TL;dr - I once wore some white trainers while I watched some mates play rugby.

Me and my mates were having boxing matches in one of their living rooms, and someone called me it at some point. It was the first thing I thought of when prompted to come up with a username much later.

You sure they weren't making just tea and asking if you wanted sugar rather than calling you it as a nickname?

Spelled with a K because it's cooler that way

The first time I used it was actually as my save name on Field Commander on the PSP. It's basically an Advance Wars clone, so I picked a name that was close to "Orange Star" from AW.

I would quite like to shorten it, but things like PSN tie me to the full name. On past Nintendo consoles with their character limits I've used ORakoon and O'Rakoon before. On Switch I'm now using OrangeRKN, which I quite like. I also like orkn as a four letter abbreviation - if you go to orkn.uk it'll redirect to orangerakoon.uk for example.
