Stalker (CBS, debuts October 1 at 10 p.m.)

If you like stalkers, you’ll love CBS’ new thriller procedural. Stalker brings Kevin Williamson (writer of Scream, creator of The Following) to tell the story of two detectives assigned to the arm of the LAPD that focuses on stalking cases. Maggie Q and Dylan McDermott play partnered detectives Beth and Jack, both of whom have stalking histories of their own. Fans of Williamson will notice the same terrifying violence, masked murderers, and creepy phone calls that have defined much of his work.

What it’s selling: Williamson told the audience at the Television Critics Association summer press tour that his goal was both to bring awareness to stalking issues, especially cyberstalking, as well as to “entertain” the viewer. The first scene is a woman being lit on fire and burned alive in her car.

What are we buying? Very little. In addition to a lot of unsettling storytelling featuring violence against women that is largely gratuitous, the lead characters have a weird dynamic that is probably supposed to be a little sexy but instead boils down to being a little creepy. For example: Jack tells Beth that he can’t figure out why she doesn’t like him, then observes he did stare at her breasts when they first met. He asks why she would wear a silk blouse and red lipstick if she didn’t want men to look at her. She then apologizes for misjudging him.

The order: Abort mission. Cancel immediately. [SS]

Although I'm still enjoying the show (I've picked it up again after stopping at the beginning of season 5) I can see why I lost the desire to keep watching, I don't think there's been a properly interesting case yet in the season. Although this is only based off of my watching season 5 I'm beginning to wonder if that's why I lost interest after watching season 4.

EDIT: Dear god the writing of the episode I'm on now
"We just need to find a phone and call 911"
*they get a mobile*
"The phone's locked"

Being able to call 911 on a locked phone better be addressed before the end of the ep

no idea which one that is but i'm stilling loving Castle. The new series starts in a few weeks and i've been really missing it. I did watch two episodes of Psych last night though and it's a great show with some brilliant comedy in places. Only 8 seasons to get through

I like this one
Scorpion (CBS, debuts 9 p.m.)
Based on the life of Walter O’Brien, the man with the fourth-highest IQ in the world,

What a hook, 4th best and
A “fun-cedural,” according to creator and executive-producer Nick Santora

Shows I'll watch at least a few episodes of

The Affair (West + Wilson)
Gotham (Despite it sounding terrible)
Utopia (already had a car crash debut)
NCIS: New Orleans (I watch the rest of them and like Scott Bakula)
Selfie (Gillan + Kapnek)
The Flash (Hopefully as good as Arrow)
Red Band Society (Enjoyed the pilot)
A To Z (Pilot was ok)
Constantine (Despite a not great pilot I'll see how it goes)
Transparent (pilot was very good)
The Game (BBC + Spies)
The After (The pilot wasn't great but I'll see how it goes)

Will check out the pilot

Mulaney
Scorpion
Jane The Virgin
State Of Affairs (controversial Katherine Heigl return to telly)
Stalker (Hatewatch)
Kingdom (UFC fan)
Gracepoint (check out the differences from Broadchurch)
Cristela (was the big TV station battle)

New stuff I'm checking out which wasn't on the AV Club list

Z Nation (Zombies from the makers of Sharknado)
Ascension (Space sci-fi)
Marco Polo

Thankfully 16 shows I watched full seasons of last year got cancelled so I've got the room.

Do we know for sure if they've changed the original ending for Gracepoint? I thought I read a while back it's different somehow.

I'll be watching iZombie as well.

Very excited for The Affair given the talent on and off screen. I'll check out the pilot of Gotham but my expectations are very low. I loved Broadchurch so I'm eager to see how their re-imagining it. And hopefully Netflix have another good original series on their hands with Marco Polo.

Why is Selfie getting more positive reviews than A to Z :dread: There's at least a slight bit of charm to the Andrew/Zelda pairing, while Gillan just seems to be a soulless husk with no redeeming features.

I don't usually watch reality TV but this caught my interest and I gave it a go.

It was actually a very good watch. There is very little interference from producers with games/voting like you'd find in Big Brother, so it's refreshing to have a reality show where it actually feels genuine.

The mix of characters is good, and I'm constantly changing my mind on who I like/dislike. Just a shame the girls are getting naked all the time but it's always blurred out :x

Z Nation was bad, I may have to keep watching just to see how much worse it will get before getting cancelled.

Z Nation was entertaining, had plenty of action & WTF Zombie Baby. It does however fall in between "Good" & "So bad it's good" of Asylums previous movies. Will continue watching for some Saturday night fun.

Soprano's pilot is really hard to watch after Gandolfini's death, oddly prophetic
