I really wanted to play Outrun Coast 2 Coast but it was all over the shop.

Then I tried Roll Cage on PS1 (which I have really fond memories) and once you enter a race, NONE of the controls work. I even tried reassigning controller order etc in QAM.

I'm starting to think emulation is just a waste of time for anything beyond GBA.

I've had zero issues emulating PS2 games through Emudeck, including the same Outrun game, so maybe there's something in your settings that needs adjusting.

edit: PS2 games on my SD that run great:

Ace Combat 4
Black
Deus Ex: The Conspiracy
FFX
GT4
GTA: San Andreas
GTA: Vice City
Need for Speed: Underground
Outrun 2006
SSX Tricky
Pro Evo 6

That's really interesting - thanks.

I have turned everything down to the minimum suggestions in the graphics options and it really is unplayable (the music slows to about 1/4 speed if there are 4 cars on the screen at once. It's a shame as I really liked the look of the game.

Maybe I will fiddle around a bit more later. Is there an really obvious things I might have set up wrong which make a huge hit to performance?

I just drop the roms into the folder, upload them via EmuDeck and then play the games through EmulationStation so it does all the settings, controls and configurations in the background without any input from me.

Are you using the PS2 emulator as a standalone piece of software?

It could just be that your SD card is on the slow side, what Class is it?

With regards to Roll Cage, could it be that you need to change the controller type to Dualshock maybe? Some games don't respond unless you select a particular pad model.

I use EmulationStation also. Thanks anyway - very strange.

It’s a fast one, can’t remember what the classification is right now. Game Cube games seem to run ok mostly.

Interesting tip on the Dualshock - I will give it a try, thanks!

There's definitely something odd going on there then, if GameCube games are working ok.

If you're using EmulationStation, I take it you've got it set up through EmuDeck? Maybe try opening EmuDeck in desktop and resetting the PCSX2 settings back to default?

I shall see if I can work out how to do that - thanks!

Outrun 2 C2C is just hard to emulate, drops frames but I still find it playable. Personal preference though eh.

There’s apparently a PC native version but good luck finding it.

Cheers, I thought I was going mad - I have adjusted every setting but still see lots of drops. It’s the music slowing to a crawl I find the most distracting! And yeah, I gather the Steam version has been discontinued, and although there is a windows abandon ware version I would not know how to get it running on the SD.

And there is definitely something weird with the Roll Cage rom. Sometimes when I boot it, it runs fine, sometimes there are no inputs, and sometimes the throttle is flat on all the time (with no steering). First game I have had issues with using Duck Station.

Just don't write off PS2 and above emulation! I'm loving times-litters future perfect atm for example.

I was a right jammy git in getting Outrun on Steam before it was delisted; it didn't even run well on my laptop when I originally bought it :simper:

Though I wish I similarly grabbed Virtua Tennis 4 pre-delisting...

Hope you guys can get C2C working working, Outrun on a portable is bliss  See also the PSP port and Outrun 3D on 3DS

I do have Outrun on 3DS and it is lovely. I should fire that up again.

A Stable Steam Deck update went out yesterday that is apparently causing all kinds of performance issues for some people, so possibly best to avoid it for now.

I however keep forgetting that restarting the Steam Deck automatically starts the update, so I'm stuck with it. Fingers crossed it doesn't have much of an impact apart from the Deck persistently having to verify the installation every time it boots up.

I downloaded it yesterday but haven't played anything after updating yet. I imagine Valve will be very quick to fix it.

Yeah something new updated and I couldn’t load up The Division, had to force the game to run Proton 8-25 to get it working again

They've already got a hotfix out. Apparently the previous update also broke Remote Play.

Something I've recently noticed as well is that the system clock is a bit messed up. If you set your timezone in game mode to GMT / UTC+0 it sets the time zone location in Desktop mode to Dublin. For whatever reason this then adds an hour to timestamps on game saves, which I've seen on FF7 Remake and Disco Elysium.

Setting the time zone to London in Desktop mode fixes this but then sets the timezone in Game mode to UTC-8 / Pacific.

As far as I know this is a universal bug and has been there for a while.

I always wondered why the timestamps on save files were completely wrong

Is that why the in game PC clock on Doki-Doki Literature Club was always displaying as an hour ahead?
